Book of the Month - Jan/Feb Neuromancer by William Gibson

I'm in the Pacific Timezone, but I see that all of you are not. What time in the evening works?

Might suggest using something like this you can set the time and share the link so anyone can quickly see when it is in their own timezone
http://www.worldtimebuddy.com

I'm generally available after 5 on GMT untill 1am depending on what's going on

If it's a Wednesday I'm good pretty much anytime after 10:00 AM EST and before Midnight.

So I am reading through the book right now and while I don't want to go into details until Wednesday but is this book supposed to be intentionally confusing in the beginning because I cannot follow what is going on so far? I'm somewhat as to what is everyone trying to do and the description of the world makes things even more difficult to follow.

EDIT: I decided to read the description of the book online because the book I have doesn't have any simple description/synopsis of the story whatsoever. So it basically the Matrix which I was aware the movie took inspiration from the book but didn't think it was strict on it. Things are starting to make sense in terms of the overall hook of the story. Hacker enters virtual reality world. Got it.

BOM March nomination?

After we are done chatting about it on Wednesday, then we will talk about March nominations.

I hate how much time flies when I'm studying... Hate it with the passion of a sith lord.

Unfortunately, I'll not be joining you for the discussion, but I will definitely read the book and leave my two cents in the topic, when I'm done.

Goddamit life, be nice to me for once :(

I had a little left to read, so I got a free audiable trial and listened to the last on it on my stupidly long drive home tonight :D

Yeah, nah, I'm ded...

Originally I had thought maybe around 3pm-4pm PST but it looks like that's going to leave those in UK staying up WAAAY too late on a Wednesday?

Could more of you please suggest a time or let me know where in the world you are? Here's a tool from @Eden if you find this useful http://www.worldtimebuddy.com/

I will be free until 5pm my time tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday until 6pm. I could do something late Friday night (9:30pm) Or late Saturday night if that puts it into the morning hours on a weekend day for more of you.

Since this is our first discussion, there's bound to be some kinks and adjusting but if we nail down a good time this round we'll try to keep it for next month.

That time is fine for me. Though if anyone is from Europe they'll likely be 1am which probably is a little late.

So if everyone is fine I'm good with tonight. I'm also good for Friday at a similar (later even) or up early sat (GMT) for late Friday for you.

Let's tentatively set Friday at 3:30pm PST, 6:30 EST, 11:30 pm GMT. How does everyone feel about that?

I know it's not going to meet everyone's needs, but we can be off in time for most to go watch Wendell and the PGP team live stream if we start on time so those who regularly tune in for that can just be online an hour early to talk about the book. Sound like a good plan?

That works since I do not have class that day.

Then it's decided! Lol. Glad you can make it. I think there's 7 of us reading this one total, so that's a really good amount for a discussion.

BOM DISCORD DISCUSSION FRIDAY 2/22 3:30PM PST/6:30PM EST/11:30PM GMT

Ok we've nailed down a date/time that works. I'd like to keep this time for the next rounds if we don't get too many complaints. I expect those in the PST zone to come a little late, but let's face it that's just the West Coast way. I will be in the Discord at 3pm for any early comers to chat and the discussion will be fairly structured and last about 1 hr once we get going unless we really start digging deep.
