Bitlocker USB, can you still store files

Simple question, but I can’t seem to find an answer. My google-fu has always sucked. If I were to use a USB flash drive as a boot key for Bitlocker to to decrypt at startup, am I still able to use that flash drive to store files normally? I plan to keep it with me at all times, so it would be handy if I can also store regular files on it, as it’s 16GB (The lowest capacity I’m actually able to buy right now, oddly enough). The drive won’t be encrypted. Also, bonus follow-up question, when using the flash drive as a boot key to decrypt Bitlocker, the drive only needs to be present during startup, yes? After I’ve loaded into Windows, I’m able to remove the drive?

iirc yes you can

iirc yes i believe you can as the key is stored in memory

Thanks heaps. Didn’t want to make the jump if I couldn’t. Still deciding between buying a Win10 Pro upgrade or go for something like VeraCrypt. I would like the free alternative, but I can’t find if that allows USB boot decryption.
