The demo/benchmark was buggy even on Windows, far as I’d read on it. I couldn’t run it with fsr+framegen enabled on Nobara, apparently the framegen was meant for the newest RTX cards or something, exclusively. Shut framegen off and it was fine. YMMV, if you’re wanting to try again.
Ill wait for a certain youtuber’s review for it. I bought space marines 2 a few days ago and I haven’t even gone the end of the walking tutorial.
Did you setup your telescope yet?
I couldnt. The forecast has been really cloudy all month.
Still a starless night, night after night. I cant believe this! Where have all those nights gone to where I swore I saw several stars in a clear sky? Maybe summer will treat me better?
In other news, I’m looking at Meshtastic right now. It seems that I have to get a HAM license if I want to put an outdoor antenna. I think I can throw out a curveball on this with stuff technically indoors but I dont know how much I can get away with 250mW of power on the 915-918 band…
So I was able to chance a relatively clear night and got the telescope near the sea. I punched in my GPS coordinates from my phone, added in date and time and finally got to make it to work. Unfortunately the seeing was bad and I think the concrete causes the telescope to vibrate really bad presumably because of the waves crashing against the sea wall… There are patches where it is sandy I should try it there or maybe get a sorbothane vibration dampeners. I should put it there next time. I also realize I might need a kiddie chair for me to sit on.
The telescope kit also was supposed to have a button type level. Its fine even if there isn’t one anymore because I have larger plastic carpentry type of level.
So I finally got it to work. The ambient lighting is bad because it is on a public park but I was able to alight 3 bright stars and Nexstar and Stellarium seem to concur on the brightest visible stars. I tried to make it go find Mars but in the end, the laser finderscope, when calibrated, is better at finding things. By the time I am done, this is now the sky:
Bummer. At least the product works well enough. The Go To function feels a bit gimmicky. Maybe I need to be better at aligning?
I probably need to join an astronomy club or start one. But hot damn I want to start a amateur radio club too thanks to meshtastic. Turns out I will need a license if I am to operate a node with an external outdoor antenna above 250mW
Took a break from homelab clean-up and played a bit of Space Marine 2 and it was over when I just started to have fun.
I still have to do a few side/parallel missions but the main mission is pretty much over.
Bummer, clouds making an entrance to ruin the fun. Find your telescope pretty cool regardless, please keep us posted on your experiences with it. Hoping to see some actual results from it soon.
I think I can setup a telescope in the hospital I work in. Unfortunately it is next to a mall so its not going to be dark at its operating hours.
Louis Rossmann recently (late last year) did this of which may help you on your journey:
Introduction to a Self Managed Life: a 13 hour & 28 minute presentation by FUTO software
He also put it in a two part video format:
