BIOS updating question

I have a Sabertooth 990FX R2.0. Never really felt the need to update the BIOS and sticking to the old "If it isn't broke, don't fix it" saying. But then I realized I don't know how to update the BIOS even if I wanted to. So figured I'd ask how to go about that.

I find the BIOS update downloads on the ASUS site but it isn't as simple as downloading a file and just updating it is it? I'm not gonna touch it for now just thought I'd ask for future reference if anyone wants to let me know.

Thanks in advance.

From the ASUS page for your motherboard.  Select Support -> Drivers and Tools.  Choose your operating system.  Under the BIOS tab, snag the latest BIOS.  If updating via a USB flash drive, under BIOS utilities, grab the "Bios Renamer for USB BIOS Flashback" and follow the directions.  Throw the resulting file on a USB flash drive.  Restart your computer and enter the BIOS.  Find the BIOS update option.  Navigate to the file on the USB flash drive (or the file on your hard drive if you're doing it that way).  Click through the prompts if there are any.  Wait for it to flash that shit.  Success.

Alternatively, you should just be able to choose to update the BIOS via the internet in the same area of the BIOS, or through the ASUS utilities in Windows.  BIOS updating is easier than it's ever been.

easiest way to do this is using the asus suite. under update there is a bios update option.

  1. Download the latest bios version 2501 from your mobo using the Asus website
  2. Unzip the bios.zip file into a folder. (you will get a .cap file)
  3. Go to Asus suite > Update > Bios update
  4. Follow the steps on the screen, at a point you get the option to search the internet or select a bios cap file.  Choose for select bios cap file.
  5. Select the bios.cap file you just upacked in the folder in step 2.
  6. Click next, leave system alone. you will get a message wenn done, and need to reboot.
  7. Go into bios, check for the newest bios version, and also check some random settings like date and time, if they are still correctly shown.
  8. Done.
