Best vfio build

Hi Guys,

I haven’t been involved in PC since my Haswell build, Since it’s aging quite badly
I am looking at putting together a new pc.

So Far
CPU- Intel 10850k
Mobo- MSI MAG tomahawk z490
GPU- AMD R9 290 waiting for MSRP stock before looking
RAM - Unsure
SSD - Unsure

Any suggestions ?

I’d go for 32gb of 3600 cl14

And ssd is ssd. Get whatever is biggest for your budget.

What is your use case?

Also why is your GPU choice a bit odd? Am I missing something from the newer models?

@SgtAwesomesauce
Its kind of hard to find those in 32Gb (assuming 16Gb x 2), 16 Gb are easier to find (8Gb x 2).

Well, last I checked, the board has 4 slots.

I managed to get my hands on some of that a while back, I didn’t know they don’t make it anymore.

I know am not up to speed with this, how bad would cl16 be ?
This is one what is was looking at

Sorry should have mentioned,
Work and gaming (i am planning on doing VM for windows), and hopefully around 5-7 years of use.

So a general rule of thumb is that the tighter the timings, the quicker the ram responds. So lower CL directly correlates to a faster First Word Latency. However, faster frequency does as well.

So, what I’ve found is that 3600, cl14 is the best you can get for any reasonable amount of money.

CL16 is not bad. You’re going to be waiting another 1.5NS for your first word return, but that’s fine. It’ll be a very minimal change in performance.

Given that, I’m curious why you chose Intel. Seems that AMD has the better all around performance at the moment.
