Best SSD for my motherboard?

Hello everyone, I have an Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 which you can check out here,

I was going to get a new GPU but decided it was time to get an SSD. I would like to get an SSD with as much space as possible without going too crazy on the price.

I'm looking for recommendations as I do not know a lot about SSDs. I did not ask where to find an SSD.

samsung evo

I'd say Crucial MX100 because they perform fairly good, and are cheap. What's your budget anyway?

Second Samsung Evo. You only need one site to find your seller - pricezombie - heres the 840evo link

Wondering why no one said this...ssd performance has no relation to your mobo unless it is really old and using sata 2 or it is using a new standard like sata express on the new intel platforms. Neither of which concern you. Anyways what are you willing to spend? What defines too crazy?

IDK about the 840 EVO, has had its run of problems and even though I have one I would not jump to recommend it.

  • Great speeds, easy OS migration software, uber long life, great NAND, good price >> Samsung 850 (evo or non-evo doesnt matter) ***Cant recommend these drives enough, they're f'n awesome***

  • Cheap, reasonable speeds, good quality NAND but no easy migration tools out of the box - Crucial MX or BX series.

Ideally you want at least 250+gb in size. 120gb is fine for just the OS and a few programs but it is nice to have enough room so you can have a few games on there as well (use steammover for moving games to & from the ssd).

As has been said, motherboard and SSD combinations do not matter unless you are running a really old motherboard, which may not even support SSD. The first question I have to ask is, why do you want an SSD?

Personally, I recommend ANY computer user to have at least 1 SSD in their computer to put the operating system on, as well as functionality programs like web browsers, media players (just the players, not the media itself), disk burners, anything that's a utility. The reason is because these are all things you want fast and responsive, especially the OS. That being said, "I would like to get an SSD with as much space as possible" probably isn't what you actually need. A 128 GB SSD is enough to put your OS and utility programs on (I actually have that size SSD and it's more than enough, unless you are a major production worker using full adobe products and many other things).

For things like movies, music, pictures, office documents, etc, it is completely overkill to put these files on an SSD because they don't need to be fast loading and responsive. And unless you have the money to invest in large SSDs, don't even put games on them (if you play a lot of games, that is. If you only play a few, you'll have the room). If you have the money to store lots of games on SSDs, go for it. But otherwise, you really only need one. Save money and just buy a few HDDs for mass storage. Hopefully this helps; reply if this gives you a better focus for what you want and I'll steer you towards where to get one.
