Hey guys. I’m living in a college dorm and I don’t own any speakers. However, lately I really badly have been wanting some speakers to listen to music while studying or doing work. I have about $200 to spend.

Are you looking for powered or passive? I use these speakers and am happy with them, but they lack real low end bass.
You can usually find them on sale under $100, check slickdeals, which would leave you $100 for a used receiver or a plate amp such as this
build your own, parts express has byo kits for ~200, they sound amazing and you also learn how it works. i built one my self had to solder the whole thing together. i learnt alot in the 4 hours it took to put together. :)
these - hands down over anything remotely near their price range
