I’m using my motherboard built in sound card, and it’s gotten REALLY bad with Windows 10’s forced driver updates.
Changing the drivers hasn’t fixed anything, uninstalling them and letting windows pick, using the one my mobo’s site provides, an older version of the one it provides, nothing.
It’s not my headphones, they sound fine through my phone. (As good as it can through a phone…)
I figure it’s time to get a DAC anyway.
The DAC doesn’t need to be portable, I’m likely never going to remove it from my computer.
I mention I’m in B.C., Canada because our dollar is total crap atm, and shipping costs to here is insane. Amazon.ca Prime is preferable.
Looks decent, I'm watching some reviews right now. One guy said the bass switch messes with the audio (duh, ik it's changing the equalization, but apparently makes it noticeably worse quality), but I'll likely never use it anyway.
I'm still open to other suggestions, unless this is for sure what I should get.
Edit: It looks like this is probably the best for my situation. Of the few others I've come across from reviews, this is the only one that does exactly what I need for the price, and is actually available on Amazon.ca.
If I shouldn't get it for some reason, please let me know.
http://schiit.com/products/fulla I got to listen to this one a while back, with a pair of Sennheiser HD449's, and it sounded fantastic. It also has good reviews on head-fi.org, digitalaudioreview.net etc.
That sadly goes over my budget, 79.00+11.64(shipping) USD is $134.34CAD (With tax) according to Google. I would probably actually end up paying about $140CAD.
I picked up their cheapest product (dac destroyer) and v impressed at sound quality, Would upgrade to 'bit-perfect' model with volume control, but with customs charge for getting it here to uk, is beyond my budget for while yet
