Hi folks, tomorrow ill get a new rig and the last thing i need is to confirm the SSD, so far the PNY seems the best option considering price and speed:
mushkin reactor is 10 bucks more but i dont know if its really worth it

looking forward to hearing from you
I favor the PNY in this case. The Phison S10 controller found on the PNY is far superior to the "Silicon Motion SM2246EN" found on that Mushkin. The Phison S10 is widely accepted as the best Sata 3 controller out right now and I agree with that consensus. Toshiba Nand in the PNY with that Phison Controller makes it one killer of a drive, in my eyes a better drive than the Mushkin.
I say your really wasting money if you go above 250gb. the only way I'd go above that is if I was multibooting 4+ OSs.
remember any file you lose on a ssd is gone forever.
Can confirm. Have a Patriot Blast. It's a TLC drive (but the techreport SSD crucible article had one of their TLC drives right behind the 840 pro at 2.2PB) but with the Phison controller... that thing will sustain writes like an absolute champ.
and what 250GB SSD would you recommend? i think having more space could be useful and ssd should last more than HDDs
The failure rates of MLC SSD's frankly trounce cheap hard drives, and 480GB's is a lot of room for sub $140. Especially when you consider how much faster the experience is and the real world difference that you notice from spending the extra money.
ok and is there a significant decrease in speed compared to lower cost PNY mlc drives? such as :
CS1111 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/pny-cs1100-480gb-internal-sata-iii-solid-state-drive-for-laptops-black/3935037.p?id=1219609310365&ref=199&loc=8BacdVP0GFs&acampID=1&siteID=8BacdVP0GFs-v2htWIjIMjBkWia04Q2JWw
CS1311
That drive is TLC based and has an inferior controller by a long shot, for $10 I'm getting the better MLC Phison S10 drive every time. I have SSD's in every one of my Machines, and have not had a single one go bad. MLC drives are damn near bullet proof when done right, TLC drives only have the odd drive that doesn't suck IMO.
I see, well speed can be really important if you are working with large files all day long , but i thought for the average desktop user and gamer there is little real-world difference in having a computer boot two seconds faster or load screens go away around 5% quicker. would you still say its worth the extra $ for MLC when we compared it to good TLCs such as:

i cant buy SSDs sin US again so we have to consider good reliabilty in case of disk failure to avoid RMA
Let me put it this way, no TLC drive outside of the Samsung 840 evo and 850 evo has even gotten close to the proven reliability of a MLC based drive. And both of those drives had to have very, very special firmware's to be able to do what they've did coupled with a very different approach to TLC which no other company has managed to get outside of a lab yet.
so bottomline MLC is better unless its Samsung evos
Basically, Toshiba TLC is getting better but its not nearly as proven as MLC or Samsung TLC. There needs to be more time given to that flash before I'd be willing to whole-heartedly give it a recommendation.
ok so MLC vs Samsung TLC is a Draw right now? i could go for 850 evo but only 250 GB, id rather spend more for the PNY and have more space. gracias for your help
I would still favor the MLC drives. My recommendation would still be that original PNY CS2211 480GB. That drive is a steal for that price tbh.
don't settle for consumer class when you can have bussiness class.
also hardrives may not be as fast or have as much write endurance. but file recovery is alot easier and they genrally don't suffer from bit-rot unless you store them in a hot humid place or you have bad ram.you also have warning in most cases when a hdd is on it's last leg.
That SSD is dated as hell, the write speeds are terrible in comparison because the controller is so old. Definitely not as good as the PNY Frankly, Enterprise class doesn't necessarily mean better, there is more to a product than the portion of the market its been placed to compete in.
Much like OCZ's Power Failure Management Plus (PFM+), Phison's SmartFlush minimizes the time that data stays in the ram buffer and is constantly flushing the data to minimize In-Flight data loss from a unexpected loss of power. This is not the same as true Enterprise grade Data Loss Protection but is still nevertheless a nice addition. - source
the intel drive may be old but it has.
3 months power-off retention once SSD
reaches rated write endurance at 40 °C
Hot Plug Support
Hot Plug insertion and removal is supported in the presence of a proper connector and appropriate operating system (OS), as described in the SATA 3.0 specification. This product supports asynchronous signal recovery and issues an unsolicited COMINIT when first mated with a powered connector to guarantee reliable detection by a host system without hardware device detection. - source
i found a TLC drive go on sale now, how is it in your opinion? i was thinking to buy for my dad
