Best Mini-ITX CPU

I am looking for the best CPU (for gaming) preferably under $500 and the best motherboard to go with it for a mini ITX system. I don't care if it is Intel or AMD but I heard that AMD doesn't have many mini ITX motherboards that support the better CPU sockets.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

i7 4790k with the asus maximus VI impact motherboard. You could save money and get the same performance more or less with an i5 4690k and the asus h87i-plus motherboard.
