I'm looking to get a pair of Senn HD558's and to pair with that I'd like to get a dedicated mic as well. I've seen the modmic, and the samson meteor mic and those are good options from what I have read but I'd like to see what else is out there. I have enough room on my desk for a mic so I don't really care if it's on the headphones like a modmic or on the desk. I mainly care about the quality of the audio. Let me know what you guys think is the best mic under $50 for me and why please, don't just say zalman zm-mic1 and give no insight as to what makes it a better option as that would not really be that helpful. Thanks guys!
mod mic must be pretty good if Logan did a whole video with it

A desk mic will pickup keyboard noise, so keep that in mind. The Blue Snowflake is a good mic that costs about the same amount as the modmic (found here). Good sound quality, but you will have to use push to talk for any desk mic.
edit:
Logan did a bunch of "kill your headset" videos that you should check out.
Already seen those videos, and also I currently use push to talk anyways as I find it's the best method to minimize excess background noise so not really a problem for me.
I am slightly familiar with the blue microphones, what about the blue snowball vs something like the meteor mic or modmic as far as quality of sound goes what would be the best.
The specs for the blue and the Samson are almost identical. If deciding between those then pick based on the base. The mod mic specs wise has a slightly worse response range, but that really doesn't matter. They will all sound pretty much the same. Pick the mod mic if you want something mounted on your headset. I personally prefer headset mounted mics. I use the mod mic with my HE-500's.
how does the mod mic sound, in your opinion.
I'm not usually the one listening to it. Its not something that you would use for studio production. But its good enough for team speak or vent. I think the sound quality its good enough to recommend. Logan does a test of it in the link Kewldude posted. Check that out for an idea of how the mod mic sounds.
I have a Blue Snowball ice and absolutely love it. Definitely something I would recommend for somebody not wanting to use a headset mic.
