Best Media Player for Windows?

I have for the latest years used Kmplayer as it had a clean ui and superior image quality to most other media players. The latest version however has been pretty bloated with advertisements and crapware so I have used the older versions instead. They have however started to give me problems with crashing more or less everytime i start the program.

Are there some other great media player I should know of? Please tell me.

(Don't mention VLC)

media player classic 64bit ?

whats wrong with vlc? i use both.

I agree with you about the Kmplayer. Crying shame what they did to it. Which OS are you using? I personally haven't found another that i like.I end up defaulting to VLC. Well that and Kodi media center. The standard media player has evolved. http://kodi.tv/about/ https://plex.tv/features

I have to know why you don't want/like VLC? For me personally, it's the most customizable, tweekable playback software I've used. Plays everything I've ever thrown at it.. so please, why no love for the little orange traffic cone?

Foobar 2000. Great for customising it to you and how you use it.

EDIT: Ooops sorry it is media not just music. Excuse me.

http://www.gomlab.com/eng/index.gom I almost forgot GOM

Used winamp switched to MPC then to vlc then MPC-HC then ended back with vlc since it does damn near everything and has thousands of skins, That and I needed vlc to stream to Justin.tv a few years ago.

And now I got to go play with MPV...

Man! I miss the old Winamp. :( They maybe trying to do something but its been like this for awhile now. http://www.winamp.com/

CCCP is a good one, it's built on top of a modified MPC with some extras that help it excel even further. It's definitely up there on my recommended list, with good 'ol VLC coming in close

for those wondering vlc is a crappy player when you use it more widely. as a player it can play x265 and opus separately but not together in a mkv container. which is bad considering that both codecs are expected to replace their predecessors any day now. it also can't play m4a audio even though it's basicly just another name for a aac file. not to mention unlike mpc-hc and other players it can't pan and scan the screen to eliminate black bars.

Okay...

I use PowerDVD now, mostly because of blurays and I haven't found a good free player yet.

Are you thinking just media player or media library too? JRiver Media Player is decent for both music and video. It also has good fidelity.

For just music? I would go with Foobar; however, there is some time and understanding that goes with getting it tweaked to your preferences.

mpc hc, look up plugins you can add to improve video quality. upscaling content, etc. i personally use mad vr, xy sub filters and external lav filters and splitters. you have to adjust the quality levels according to your system setup. i personally use mine to watch 720p content upscaled to 1080p. quality is improved relative to gom or vlc. i also watch alot of anime. attack subs and huge cache of fonts are supported by xysub filters. there'll be tutorials on how to set up all plugins, just need to google a little. overall setup time is about 30 mins, including fine tuning. but worth the effort since it is a one time setup.

The reason for me dislikeing VLC is beacuse of video quality, not near as sharp and clear as for example KMPlayer which also had a ton of settings.

I will try out some of the alternatives mentioned here and report back. :)

*noteworthy, if you're going to use mad vr make sure you have a good cpu or gpu to boot. can work with either afaik. i use gpu since it renders more than my 8350.about 5 fps more

It has an .io URL so you know it's made by cool guys.

MPC with SVP and MadVR

KMplayer had superior sound. Image quality tends to be the same compared to other players. However it's really fast. VLC takes ages to open and close.

Try Potplayer it's made by the same guy who was working on KMP. But the sound isn't as good. There is also Light Alloy but i haven't tried that one.

I use VLC for video, and Foobar2000 for audio.
