I'm new to using Linux, having just installed Mint 13 onto my Asus Laptop in dual boot with Windows 7. I'm planning on running software like Lightworks and Audacity off Mint as well as programs like WINE and Steam and just using it for everyday browsing. However, I would also like to get into the terminal commands and tinkering aspects of Mint, and as I've just started out, I wondered what I could do to become a better all around user and what walkthroughs out there would give me the best starting points? Any pointers for this new Linux user?

Start by watching some video tutorials and reading the documentation for the some for some of the things you use most. I've skimmed over these resources and I think you'll find them a good place to start.

Any pointers for this new Linux user?
1. Make backups.
2. Install software/add repositories only from trusted sources.
3. Do not run as root unless you have to.
4. Don't run random commands people tell you to unless you are absolutely certain of what they do.
5. Have fun.
Maybe this book would be helpful if you the book type.
