I am going to build a gaming pc in march, so i want to start getting my build planned. I am asking here if i should get the Evga gtx 560 2GB or the 560 ti 1GB. Maybe even the 560 ti 2GB if I have some extra money. What are the differences and which Gpu is best? Thanks.
P.S. I may have the money for a 660 ti, but just focus on the three up there please :D
The 2GB version of the 560 TI would be the best. It obviously has a more powerful GPU than the GTX 560, and the extra VRAM will be necessary for more modern games. More and more games are starting to use more VRAM, so 2GB is a must nowadays, especially for resolutions of 1920x1080 and higher.
If you can afford the GTX 660 TI though, then definitely go with that. It's going to kick the pants off all those other cards. Although, instead of the 660 TI, you should look at the Radeon HD 7870. It performs about the same or better and doesn't cost as much.
Alright sweet, I think I want to go nVidia though in this build as it is my first, and I want to try and start it off with a bang. But yeah, if I can afford the 660ti, I will DEFINITELY go for that...lol. But what about the non-ti 560? is that still okay? or does the ti really step ahead?
The 560 TI has a pretty significant performance advantage over the 560. I don't even know why they did the naming scheme that way, considering the 560 TI came out first and was considered their mid range card. The vanilla 560 came out later and didn't perform nearly as well.
If your building a gaming PC a 560ti or even a 660ti is not the best card for your money.
Vortex88 is 100% and you should be looking at the new 7870 card called "Tahiti LE" editions (this is a stripped back 7950 and a monster of a card for the money) www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiM10G7UyOg.
Nvidia is not the best way for you to go in this build, Like Liam Neeson they have are a very particular set of skills; skills they have acquired over a very long career!
But you have no need for Cuda cores, so will end up with a card that can do things you wont need it to, and get lower FPS in the thing you want it too....
Well, how much is the 7870? And I don't know why I am picking favorites, I just want to try out nVidia and also, my friends say they are good to so...lol. idk
nvidia card are really good, and you wouldn't be unhappy with a 660TI, but these cards have the edge in rendering, editing, CAD and other workstation application that will use the Cuda cores, where as AMD card tend to have the advantage in pure gaming.
I'm not sure how much I trust PowerColor though. I would wait a week or two until other manufacturers like EVGA, MSI, XFX, and HIS come out with more 7870 XT's.
EVGA has a Radeon Series? Oh, I never knew that. But like I wil be producing youtube videos, maybe streaming, and maybe a little photoshop here and there. I dont know, and yeah, I havent really heard of PowerColor, so I will wait for bigger brands. But is this 7870 really as good as you say it is?
Oh oops, yeah, EVGA doesn't make AMD cards. I just throw their name out there sometimes because I know they're a good manufacturer.
And yes, for straight gaming, the 7870 is a beast of a card, especially the new XT versions that are coming out. If you're going to be rendering videos though, then an Nvidia card might be better just for faster render times.
Well, the videos will only be like 5-10 minutes long. Maybe 20 mins at the most? What are you thinking, and you kinda have me leaning on either the 660ti or the 7870 right now. How many FPS can the 7870 get maxing out BO2? What about recording with FRAPS?
the 7870 get higher FPS in most of the game bechmarks, and the GPU Computing and Media Playback benchmarks are neck and neck......(really though the nvidia would have done much better on media conversion!?)
Well your CPU is going to do most of the rendering work. An Nvidia card might help a little bit, but it's not going to be a gigantic difference or anything.
Keep in mind that those are old benchmarks and don't take the newest drivers into account. Not to mention that they're also benchmarks for the regular 7870 rather than the 7870 XT.
+1 the 7870 is a different card to the "7870 XT" its totally different card architecture and really should have been called the "7930" to clear up the confusion as its based on the 7950 rather then the 7870.
But also look at the lack of people coming in here and saying "Buy the 650/660TI"......there is a reason for that! ;)
(also keep in mind, I have a nvidia and a AMD, Im certainly not bias to one brand as I prefer to use best card for the job......but you do seem to have a little crush on nvida?)
