Best free Antivirus

hey guys just wanted to ask if you can recommend any free or cheap Antivirus?

Right now I still got 28 days on my Avira trial left but I don't really want to pay for it not even knowing if it's any good.

I know that Logan recommended some AVs on the inbox, but I can't find the episode.

comodo, avast, malware bites, search and destroy, hijack this,

the best antivirus is between the chair and the screen. also, adblock.

AVG Free has done the job for over 3 years for me. Say what you want about it, but I haven't recieved a problem.

avast free or avg(Virus), i prefer avast

malwarebytes, hitman, superantispyware (spyware, malware, etc)

flash block, adblock plus, https everywhere, duckduckgo, web of trust, ghostery. (for privacy, which also can help prevent infections)

best thing to do is not click on stuff that is sketchy, don't click things that say you are missing a plugin unless you are positive it is safe.

Avast here.  Not a resource hog and seems to work pretty damn well.

Avast and AVG have my vote. (Choose one or the other; don't install both)

Then couple one of those primary antiviruses with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. This is simply a cleaner and will catch what Avast or AVG (depending on which you use) doesn't find.  You may find Spybot Search & Destroy a neat program as well; it comes with quite a few useful features.  You'll need to update these programs manually, but that isn't too much of a problem since you'll only need to use them (Malwarebytes and Spybot) every once in a while (I would say around once a month or so).

I also recommend CCleaner for clearing junk files off your computer and out of the registry.  And if you are using a mechanical HDD, I suggest using Defraggler instead of the disk defrag tool that is incorporated in the OS.

And I agree with most of what was said above.

cleaning the registry causes a shitload of problems, and doen't fix any. I fucked up windows before, when cleaning the registry wit ccleaner. windows ignores bad dll links anyways. I ended up having to re-install windows cause javascript in firefox broke cause of broken registries.

defraggler is awesome tho...

I suppose it varies from person to person.  I don't use firefox, so I haven't had any problems with CCleaner so far. This is why backup and restore is useful.  I probably should have mentioned this as well.  :)

This is an older but interesting topic. i use.

Avira Antivir for virusses.  also used AVG in the past and that is also great.

Malwarebytes  just for some malware scan´s.

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.62 for spyware scans. also works great.

Avast has been great for me. In my personal experience, it has caught things that both AVG, Norton, and McCaffee haven't caught. Not at the same time mind you. On different machines for work, school, and friends.

can anyone know if theirs also an ESET that is 64-bit? i mean i re-install my OS and it's now Windows 7 64-bit. i didn't realize that the previous installer was for 32-bit OS in which it wouldn't allowed to be installed in a 64-bit OS. buy pinterest likes

32 bit AV will run fine on x64 hardware/software

All current free AV's are going to keep you safe as long as you are not actively looking for trouble.

as fas as which brand of AV to go for? its pretty much one 6 or two 3's
