I'm upgrading from an AMD fx-6300 and was wondering what the best CPU would be for the money. Between a $100 to $300 price range, naturally.
Well considering your already on am3+ i would say FX 8350

the best cpu for the money is entirely dependent on your budget, what you need it for and what parts you are getting and what you already have
the next thing is why do you NEED a new CPU what does your build consist of and how will it help you to get a new CPU?
You should probably invest that money in a gpu upgrade. The 6300 is pretty decent and 7970s and 7950 are under 300 right now.
I feel as though this is a good idea. I've gotten a raise and feel like upgrading my gaming rig. So anything that'll improve the overall performance will do fine by me. I am, however, running a 660, so grabbing that 7970 is looking like a really promising endeavor.
for gaming, a 7970 or 280X will give you a huge increase in performance over a 660, whereas an 8350 might only give you a couple of FPS improvement over the 6300.
Athlon x4 860K?
