So, I am looking for parts suggestions for building a Good Kodi-Media Server rig with decent storage. It will connect to a Kodi box ( need a suggestion on that too).
The kodi box, I am interested in the Octo-core ones on Amazon.
The server should have decent storage capacity and run Linux. it should be stable as shit. So, distro suggestions too. Say, price ~$600 max. For server. it will only serve up to one client machine.
I recently built a home server for very cheap. It runs my Minecraft server and is used for streaming my media to the main TV in the living room.
I found the cheapest parts I could off amazon and newegg and only spent about $300. Could it be better? Yes. I will be buying a new processor next to bump up the cores from 2 to 4.
What I am trying to say is that it does not take much to build a decent home server.
To stream the media to my TV I am using Kodi (OpenElec) XBMC and it works like a charm. I can be streaming an HD movie and have people playing minecraft all at the same time. I was quite impressed, due to how low my specs are.
As a side note; it is very quite and sits in my bedroom.
In-depth Specs. (remember I was going for as cheap as possible)
