Best Case Lighting

Hey guys,

I currently have a Define R4 and want to customize a little bit with some custom light strips. Which brands/types/etc. of light strips do you guys prefer? I'm planning on getting 2-3 strips and don't want to pay more than $30-$35. Also, how would I be able to power the lights? Is it just a molex to PCI connector? Sorry, I'm kind of a noob with all this modding stuff.

Thanks

Most LED strips are pretty crappy and expensive for what they are. The LED's are usually of low quality, and get dim or fail really quickly. The same is true for LED's used in consumer/gamer keyboards and mice for instance.

The best thing to do is to make your own lighting. You can create a design, then calculate the best array with this calculator: http://led.linear1.org/led.wiz. The specs to start the calculation from is on the data sheets of serious LED's by serious vendors. I personally prefer Cree LED's, you can never go wrong with those.

Once you know what array you want to make (and using quality bright LED's you need very little LED's for more light than with dense crappy LED strips), you go to an electronics store or a good online store, order the LEDs and resistors you need and a molex connector to take power from a molex (you only need the 5V lead usually, so calculate for 5V) output lead from your PSU. You can use a variable resistor to regulate the brightness, but that's of course optional. You can also use RGB LED's, you can even use a microcontroller to make lighting effects. All stuff that you just can't buy off-the-shelf, and that makes all of the difference. So what's the best case lighting: the one that you make yourself.
