Best budget computer build

Whats the best budget gaming computer for 800-950$? i will be playing on 1080p or 1440. i was gonna use the sapphire rx480 nirtro when it comes out but if there is a better card i will use that.

Also if you know of any good cases for the build that preferably have a fairly large window to inside and have room for cable management and an rgb strip, that would be nice.

thanks!

Is that $950 with a monitor? Or do you already own a monitor?

Are you doing anything besides gaming?

If you just want the best case that'd be caselabs but they're expensive, otherwise your hardware is far more important than aesthetics

i already have a monitor. if there snt a case with that stuff itll be fine. also ill probably be doing school projects but other than that nothing too big

is the monitor 1440p or 1080'p? 60hz?

1440p 60hz

Then just sub in whatever after market RX 480 is good and you're set

I suppose you could drop the SSD and get the case you want like a Define S Windowed, but I don't condone spending money on asthetics until your budget is about $5000+ and you have either 3 1440p 144hz IPS displays or 3 40-50" 4k displays

Windowed Define S is $90

looks good. if i drooped the ssd and used a hard drive i already have is there anything i could improve to make it marginally better? or should i just get the whole thing and maybe add the other hard drive if i need it?

6600k, 212 evo, and a z170 board, but you really need the ssd.

would that be around the same price? is there already a parts list for it?

Generally speaking, you want to try and get the best card you can afford and it appears you have an HDD so try this:

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/9XMBPs

Plenty of room for a BCLK OC and a GPU OC

is the gtx 1070 worth the 200$ more than the rx 480? this is going to be my first gaming computer and im trying to get the best price/performance.

No but for gaming right now, it is your best option. I could try and compile an i7 build with the 480 but you may have to update the GPU in 2-3 years

@fredrich_nietze

I'd go for an i7 6700 over an overclockable i5 and a higher end board + hyper 212 evo

or over a higher end GPU like a 1070, as the 480 will be more than capable for 1440p 60hz gaming at medium-high settings in modern AAA games, and then you got the i7 you never need to replace

price ends up around the same for the i5 K vs i7, and the i7 here already turbos to 4ghz

i figured a overclockable board + a cooler means he can add a better i7 later without replacing mobo and screwing the os, but youre the master builder.

lol

the non K i7 is already like pretty damned good, in the end you end up at like 4.5ghz on the overclock most likely, so it's overall hardly faster

and it's cheaper now, but I'd still shoot for a 5820K over a 6700K any day, price difference is $150 now I think between the 2, used to only be $100

Definitely do this. I've been away for a while but it appears this analysis is far more accurate.

I've really got to catch up

side note, but I'd think of it in terms of

how much faster is a 1070 vs an RX 480? 20-30% at best? *In 1440p anyways, I think the difference is larger on average for 1080p

and then for the same money in the budget, about $150 for the upgrade

how much faster is the i7 6700 vs the i5 6500? easily 50% or more, using all threads of course, but that's more performance per dollar overall, not necessarily direct gaming performance, but you probably never need to worry about upgrading the i7

this is what i thought would be good for my budget.

im fine with upgrading in the future if i need to. plus theres probably gonna be bigger, better stuff in the future that will make the price of those things come down so i think this is where i'll start.

what do you think?
