I've been going through aux cables like crazy, buying cheaper ones they generally start to have problems with the sound coming in one headphone unless contort the cable in some ridiculous way within a month. What are the best ones to get in terms of build quality? They need to be able least 4 feet long. I'm sick of having to replace them constantly and having to game with one ear.
I have a monster AUX cable that has lasted a while. Bit expensive though.
Where are you buying your cables from?
I don't have an answer to your question but I am often perplexed at how such simple products that literally only serve one single purpose can fail so often. Especially something with no moving parts like an aux cable.
My friends and I always go through these things like crazy in our cars. Every other person I ride with either has a shitty one or theirs "just broke."
+1
I've bought various sub ten dollar cables from amazon.
You could try monoprice? I don't know. I've generally had good luck with cheap cables. I'm using a 3.5mm cable right now that's nearly 20 years old for example. The only thing that has failed on me in the last 15 years or so has been a 3.5mm extension cable that I used extremely often... and even it took a solid 7 or 8 years before it decided to die. I guess I can see having reliability issues on a cable you use with your daily driver headphones. Something that gets plugged, unplugged, thrown into and dug out of a drawer etc often, but still though.
You can try brands like monster or Null (super expensive), they might be more durable. Also remember to always pull from the housing, not the cable. Pulling from the cable will severely limit it's lifespan.
Either you are wrapping them up wrong. (basically bending them too tightly) Check youtube for "how to wrap cables", plenty of videos from audio/video techs that'll show you how you should do it. Basically you want to go in a small circle, not too tight and you overlap such that it doesn't twist. It's easier to watch a video.
Or you have a cat/dog. This is generally how I lose cables.
I've had some good luck with Amazon finding cables. The Amazon basics is ok, I've ordered some of the Mediabridge brand and they've been really good. Monoprice I've had mixed luck, a lot of their cables have 1/2 inch of rubber insulation and they're hard to bend.
And always order 2, just in case.
