i use ublock origin, i have found it to be very lightweight.
I tried the Raspberry Pi full network adblocker but it sucked sadly…
It couldn’t pick up on YouTube or any media player ads because they’re coded as preloaded videos.
I just want something to block ads on Amazon Fire TV because cracking to it is way too much work.
lol i am in between buying an amazon fire tv or a roku , whatdoyouthink
I’d buy Fire TV. Every Roku I’ve had or used either froze and sucked from day 1 of after a few months turned to shit.
And the remotes are trash.
does the fire stick require you to make an account or something?
Disconnect, ublock origin, and umatrix. Stacked with assorted other things.
it uses your amazon account, you dont have to have prime, you need prime to access prime content but there’s literally shit to choose from. every once in a while theres a random decent movie that pops up on there like 2001 or Ex Machina but I just have it because I buy way too much shit on amazon.
Other than that it has pretty much everything I’ve needed so far. Except a way to easily wirelessly stream from a surface pro or get unregistered apps.
Idk I’m getting fed up with all of them. Kodi has boxes you can buy from them that essentially run android but they are very underpowered I’ve been thinking about building my own.
But who has time for that, I’ll just deal with Fire TV and suffer until I’m not working 6 days 10 hours to make my own.
a hardware firewall with a dns hole
barring that, ublock origin/matrix
Fire Stick is basically an underpowered version of the Fire TV.
If you’re doing streaming, you may want to skip the Stick and get the Fire TV for better performance.
I’ve had 4 Roku’s - various versions over time - but all of them are up & running fine.
All the “apps” have to come from Roku so if you want legit apps like Hulu, Netflix, Vudu, etc. the Roku is very good.
If you want apps that do things like IPTV, do NOT get a Roku as they routinely take them down.
The Roku remotes are good and bad… I like the earphone jack that is built into the remote so I don’t bother the wife. I’m not thrilled about them advertising themselves as adhoc wireless networks however.
There is very little difference between an Android media box and a Fire TV.
I highly recommend that you go with the Android option as it runs Kodi very well, if you want.
It also runs native .APKs so legit, and IPTV apps run fine.
I also appreciate having access to the Google Playstore instead of being locked into the Amazon Store.
What I have is fire tv. While it’s great, its not 100 dollars great. I’d rather build a shitty pc and put Android like you said but that’s a pain in the ass.
Like the PiHole with a Raspberry PI?

That’s one option, yes. Not ideal though.
Can’t trust any site that tells you to curl into bash anyhow
Buh, uh, don’t you have time to read every line of code?!??
peerblock
I like AdNauseam (built on uBlock)
uBlock Origin + Disconnect, HTTPS Everywhere and PrivacyBadger for extra protection
i think roku. it’s not as seamless as amazon but i doubt seamless is any useful when there’s very little content to choose from.
this is the ublock + trackmenot in one plugin thing, right?
Same for me, but haven’t heard of privacy badger. Will have to look into that.
I think it is. It clicks adds^^
