Looking for a good pair of 2.1 speakers for my computer. Uses will be gaming, music, and occasional tv/movie.
I'd prefer to spend around $50 USD, but may consider going to $100~ if it means a big improvement in sound.
Note: I like a nice strong bass.
So far I'm considering the Logitech Z623 (although I'd rather not spend this much) and Cyber Acoustics CA3550RB. Would the Z623s perform noticeably better (worthy of the extra $50)? Should I be looking at something else altogether?
The Z623 a definitely worth it and are on sale now for $100 US, if the sub woofer is put under the correct shaped desk it can amplify the bass and just be absolutely outstanding for the size and price. There is definitely a big jump in quality over the model bellow.
You could expand it later by pearing with an Subwoffer, and I think this can take audio from both 3.5mm and RCA (maybe not at once). So you could peer it later on with a Bluetooth reciever or something for wireless music from a cellphone. They are apparently pretty popular, make sure to get the 42x ones they are much better, might get some later this year.

You could build it out later into a full surround system with a proper audio reciever :p.
Definitely the Logitech Z623, They make great speakers, using a flat frequency response. Great stuff they make for non-professional grade speakers, probably one of the best out there.
Your not going to get the same sort of performance from tiny little 'computer' speakers, that you would get from actual powered bookshelf speakers with actual tweekers and actual woofers. This should be obvious as you don't see people using these sorts of speakers in their home theatres. The MB42x have very good reviews.
You could get a powered subwoffer later, or try and dig up a cheeper second hand one somewhere, and I mean a proper 10inch powered subwoffer.
How is it better, the MB42X have really good reviews and a flat frequency response (accurate across frequency range), they also put out a lot of sound! I can't possibly see how you are going to get a flatter response and more noise out of those logitech speakers, even with the subwoffer (which is tiny and low quality).
It comes with the sub woofer, these speakers with their sub all packaged together, with price to performance considered would blow away those other speakers. But with money as no concern then once you get a powered sub for those bookshelf speakers, they would then blow away the Logitech ones.
But for OP, the Logitech option is better.. for. the. OP.
