Extensions/Addons never sit well with me as owners can change hands pretty quietly / probably are not the most secure things.

They probably aren’t, but that’s the tradeoff for convenience and depends what your threat model is. If you want to be the most secure and add extra work for yourself, you can just compile the extension yourself with the github code.

For me, I separate my work and personal profiles. I have minimal extensions for my work profile (https everywhere, canvas, youtube channel whitelist, cookie autodelete) and multiple privacy addons for my personal browsing profile (https everwhere, ublock, youtube channel whitelist, noscript, cookie autodelete canvas, trackme not, privacy badger, privacy protector, google iba-opt out).

I try to avoid doing anything private or sensitive on my personal browsing profile

Some addons can be downloaded and installed in developer mode. Then you have to go download a new version.

Learned today that link feature is far more effective at embedding a message than a quote. Link previews will show 1 embed, nested embeds are treated as if they were quotes. Quotes seem to ignore YouTube/Discourse embeds.

Quotes are better for private threads where the link will not embed a preview

I thought of this video today. The university semester is starting to end and this kept me motivated.

Searching for it also had these results

I noticed they were speaking Chinese in the video, that got me interested in looking up the languages used in Malaysia.

I was browsing Mangadex, and found this in the updated shounens category. The description looked interesting and it wasn’t a super long series so I gave it a read.

I saw a BRZ/86 in a parking lot today. They look more beautiful in person, photos and videos really can’t capture it

This was a great recap of Linus’s history and growth. I started watching around 2015, when they started the moving vlogs. I wasn’t interested in the reviews at the time, but whole room water cooling and moving vlogs really sparked a interest in seeing how the channel will grow.

A Reflection on LTT

My Growing Respect for LTT

After experiencing the Tek Syndicate fallout, I was looking for some honest and open channels. This was also long before I found Gamers Nexus. My respect for Linus increased each time he was honest and open during controversies. For me, notable example was when Louis Rossmann called Linus out for baking gpus in ovens. My respect grew after hearing Louis’s reflection on meeting with Linus.
It was privated a while back, but it’s now unlisted.

Without the collaboration, I would not have discovered Louis Rossmann from YouTube recommendations.

The tipping point content wise for me was when he posted the video on x299

Through the interviews with other channels, I have gained an appreciation for Linus processes and editorial standards

That Creative Life

I liked the collaborations between, L1, LTT, and GN

In recent videos, I like how the writers have started to reference other YouTube channels.

Neil Parfitt

Initially I had issues with their past hardware reviews, but with Anthony, their procedures have gotten a bit more organized. I see them as another source for verification, if I need in depth technical coverage, I can go to Gamers Nexus or other technical channels.

Side note of how I found Louis’s reflection

On a different note, while writing the previous post, I noticed iOS cuts down ram usage/page caching when the iPad is low on battery.

I noticed this when switching between tabs to find videos for that post, I would have to frequently reload the tab. Luckily discourse saves your draft, because I probably would not have finished that post, with the number of times I refreshed. It seemed to occur around 30%

Wow the author’s experience of wanting to be a software engineer really resonated with me.

I recall making a remark about how I present myself acting and thinking as if I was a engineer/developer. When I have free time to make a project, I find excuses or distractions.

While in interacting with people in university, I there was the occasional question of why I didn’t major in a engineering field. I would frequently joke that my test scores weren’t good enough, or how I wouldn’t make it through the prerequsite math classes.

My romanticization of being a software developer met reality when I took a introductory computer science course offered to CS majors in my first year. Every week, I struggled to complete the MP, waiting in office hours to get help debugging my code.

When I worked with group mates on class projects and group work, I anchored the team, slowing the them down to explain reasoning behind submission (granted they had taken AP CS or programmed previously).

I struggled to understand basic concepts such as objects and recursion. I didn’t fully understand those two topics until after I finished my final exam. Instead of continuing my aspiration, I receded to my original major with doubts in my own academic ability to succed in other engineering courses.

Upon further reflection, I still have some regret that I didn’t continue the CS path. Since I later survived all pre-med courses (General Chemistry I + II, Molecular and Organismal Biology, Introductionary Organic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry 2, and Biochemistry) even though I ended up not applying to med school. If I had known that I would struggle just as much as that CS course in of all those pre-med courses, I would have continued CS.

I recoganize that without the pre-med courses, I would not have as strong of an understanding of the human body as I do today.

I regained some of my confidence in my academic ability after surviving Organic Chemistry II, considered one of the toughest courses at my university. Despite not performing as well in the class, it was the first time I commited myself to the end and avoid giving up when things got tough.

This was a interesting read, the protagonist gives me old man logan vibes both haunted by their past of being an absolute beast. Both characters live a peaceful life until interrupted from their past. The water color art style really makes the series pop from other series I have read.

Found new chill instrumental music to listen to while working. It started with a craving for d-code, search results had titles that included “Adult Swim Bump Music”. Searching for this yielded the following 93 track playlist.

Had issues with updating to OBS 26.1.1 on windows, I couldn’t launch the program. I couldn’t figure out why it couldn’t launch so I delayed my updates. I had to solve the issue when I my touch portal did not change the OBS scenes.

How I figured it out

  1. Updated obs to 26.1.1
  2. Tried updating Windows to the recent Feature update, obs did not launch
  3. Tried installing a newer version of touch portal, obs did not launch
  4. Downgraded to obs 24.0, saw the prompt for new update, reading the first line prompted me to look at the websocket

Important: If OBS doesn’t launch after updating, please ensure all third party plugins such as obs-websocket or StreamFX are up to date.
