I watched on Youtube, I could /will probably set points of reference to answer some of your issues. It was an interesting video, I also experienced a lot of what you went through.

Decent video !

going to watch this : )

damn fine work

I'm bookmarking this to check it out later, before I attempt to jump back into Linux soon.

Good work!

A lot of the times when you say "on Linux" it is something that only applies on your distro or DE (Desktop Environment) or something else with your particular configuration, which you probably understand.

It looks like your render with Kdenlive just didn't output anything... at all.

If you will continue to learn Linux it would be cool if you continued making videos about your experience. I think that if you would spend a little more time learning, things would make a lot more sense. Learning the terminal will be really helpful (I would personally say it is mandatory if you want to get the most out of your experience). Also, look up what package managers are and how to use them if you have not already, very important.

Antivirus is probably a good thing to have if you run a lot of Windows apps with Wine, otherwise it's not really that important. I would suggest you learn how to scan files with ClamAV using the terminal, you can create a script that automatizes it, set it to run on a schedule using a cron job or bind it to a keyboard short-cut, there are a lot of ways.

On Gnome you can use an extension called Dash to Dock which will turn the dock in the activities view to a dock that you can move to the bottom and choose whether you want it to auto hide or not and change different appearance settings. The Gnome dock will stack apps and show how many of them are opened.

If you want to have minimize and maximize buttons on Gnome you can enable those in the tweak tool. Their is a lot you can do with the tweak tool, themes and extensions. Here is how my Gnome setup looks:

You can install any DE to any distro and have multiple ones if you can't decide which one to use.

Also, It is possible to record your screen with VLC, if you just want something quick and simple.

EDIT: To create a desktop shortcut in Gnome, drag while holding ctrl+shift.

I think this is something people overlook way too often when looking into Linux, and often is based on just simply the lack of experience on how it all works. I really do believe this to be the base on why the 'distro war' is fought over, and why I also believe it to be so...stupid.

Another thing: with livestreamer you don't actually have to use VLC or any external software, you can use:
livestreamer [URL] -o [FILENAME]

With the -O option the stream will output to the standard output so that you can pipe it to any program or write it to file:
livestreamer [URL] -O > [FILENAME] or livestreamer [URL] -O | vlc -

If this doesn't make sense to you yet it will once you learn how to use bash.

Awesome. Thanks for that.

I hadn't considered continuing the learning documentation process until you said that. Now that I'm thinking about it, it seems like a good idea.

And thanks everyone for the positive feedback. I was biting my nails when I posted this.

Great video, thanks for sharing. Good description of what is going on, organized, well put together.

Please continue in making those as you progress and maybe focus on one thing each time.
