Steam seems to be having trouble and it appears other peoples account info is appearing in other peoples accounts, this (according to some) has included payment info).
Ive noticed that people are showing up as friends (in this friends wants/owns this games) who i dont have as friends, Ive not tried to buy anything I suggest people dont buy any games until that is fixed.
great, when I tried to access my account to remove my payment option I have been shown some dudes account detail, and someone is gonna see mine valve fucked up big way. I hope they let us change our account names after this mess
They may be related, this however isnt that the servers went down earlier, its that your steam login is potentially compromised either by a bug or malicious change. Accounts are showing different accounts info, and payment information for other people are showing up when trying to buy games.
For the moment id suggest people dont guy anything from steam.
There were some problems with people logging into their steam accounts today and possibly seeing other people's information. DO NOT GO LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT. Total Biscuit put out a video summarizing, I advise every Steam user should watch it and keep an eye on your bank accounts, just in case something does compromise you...
They shutdown their servers for awhile but now they're back up. It's probably a caching problem but we wont know for sure until we hear an official report from Valve. Stay safe my friends, protect yourselves.
"Steam is back up and running without any known issues," a Valve spokesperson told GameSpot. "As a result of a configuration change earlier today, a caching issue allowed some users to randomly see pages generated for other users for a period of less than an hour. This issue has since been resolved. We believe no unauthorized actions were allowed on accounts beyond the viewing of cached page information and no additional action is required by users."
Keep in mind it is the holidays, in saying that its very likely they will not make any definitive and lengthy statement untill the right people have looked at the problem in detail, which is the correct thing to do. However, telling us that would also be the correct thing to do, which they haven't.. except though some un-sourced quote from a non valve website.
