Battlestation/Desk

I'm just fishing for opinions here. Take a look, tell me what you think?

My mouse is an exercise in compromise from Monoprice, my
keyboard is the most basic, no name rubber dome nonsense, my ashtray and
headset stand are boring. That tablet is there for a #4 screen for
"comms" while working.

On the other hand, the thing the main monitor is standing on is
actually a surge protector from the early 90s or before, by Fellowes,
with switches for the individual components and a master switch. Of
course I'm not relying on it for surge protection -- there's a monoprice
6-outlet wart under the desk.

Also under the desk is a triple pedal I use for ETS2/racing games,
and a crappy little ottoman-type thing (when you're 6'1" and have muscle
spasms, one of these is a must have).

The X360 controll is simply a Rock Candy from Wal-Mart with Razer
thumbstick pads on it for comfort, and the headset is a Razer Adaro
Stereo. My mic which is off to the left in front of the tower is a Blue
Nessie that I really love, especially considering price.

The G13 I will never run out of good things to say about.

I hate the Deskjet being there, I really do, but it's sadly still a necessity for me.

Other than that, the modem happens to be behind my main monitor
because my desk ended up next to the ISP's line in, the cable management
is awful but tamed (mostly with floral wire because it's dirt cheap and
easily cut), with one major hole under the modem.

Zelda's my last major link to console gaming, and the poster is to
remind me that AAA =/= bad. A skyrim poster would have worked as well.
The little plush is a custom Link puggle from https://twitter.com/callykarishokka

Let's see, how much did I get at thrift....

  • The Fellows power switch/surge - $4
  • The keyboard $2
  • The laptop stand -- it's a dual fan Cooler Master $2
  • The table itself! $15

Things I'd like to replace..

  • The keyboard -- it's reliable crap
  • The mouse (this thing is far too small for my giant hands)
  • The phone (Want a 2.5mm jack)
  • Headphone stand (Want something heavier)

Sadly these things get expensive fast, and not always for good reason.

pretty neat, think the side monitors are a bit on a steep angle though

I'm hoping to be able to invest in a triple monitor arm, I'm not happy with how the angle relative to eachother.

(And a Dremel routing bit for better cable management)

Protip: You're a ninja, and that's awesome.

Realized my reply made about 200% more sense in the original post, moved it.

It doesn't look like you have a large desk. If you are able to place the PC under you desk (preferrably on something) you would have more space on top of your desk as it looks pretty crammed.
I think the Zelda poster would look a lot better if it were framed.
Adding a LED strip behind your monitor could make it look way more badass.
With what you have spent it is actually surprisingly nice :)

Just make sure it's sturdy enough. Would be horrible to come home to three smashed monitors lying on the table.

As for cable management Monoprice has Velcro Hook and Loop ties which is perferct for cable tying. I just stapled them up under my wooden desk and no cable is visible. A friend of mine glued his so there is probably a million ways to use them.

Yes, that would be absolutely horrifying.

It's about 4ft by 2ft -- it's an older (sturdy) table, probably out of a 70's dining room.

I've considered LED strips. The problem is that I don't really have a color theme yet, and it's difficult to settle on one peripherals first, you know? I'd feel really stupid if I get a red LED strip (because team red -- I can't argue with performance per dollar) and I ended up doing a black & blue theme.

I actually have spent very little on -everything-. The build itself was under $1K and does 90% of what I want with grace and alacrity.

You could just get a RGB led. That way if you change the color scheme again you won't have to go out and buy new LEDs all over again.
I will post mine when I have the money to get a new monitor as I will rearrange my whole room.
My current desk is pretty ghetto. I bought 2 2x1 meter of woodboard and placed on top of 3 room dividers. I will divide it into two seperate desks as my roof is too low for the 39 inch 4k monitor.

That's true. Are they very much more expensive?

And I don't want to put the PC under the desk. I have specific reasons!

We have a pride of cats, a, and there are no filters in this case, b, so seeing it reminds me "Fuck, I gotta clean that regularly."

Well if having the PC under your desk isn't an option , you could try and see if there is space enough behind your monitors.

As for LEDs RGB is fairly expensive compared to the normal.

They are both 5m.

Actually, if the latter product is RGB, that's better than I expected. That's the price my local shops want for 8ft of white LED.

No, behind the monitors is no good. The right side of the desk buts up against room mate's workstation, the left side against a kitchen bar, so access would be very problematic. And directly behind the main monitor is the house modem, which I want out of sight. The damn thing's barely decent.

Edit: I might be able to use more space laterally, though, lessen the angle on the monitors.

The last is the one that is RGB. Here is a link to it. RGB LED STRIP

(EDIT) You could buy an adjustable triple monitor mount. Lay your pc flat on the table. Place the monitor stand on top of it. Just make sure you get enough air

That's an option I hadn't considered, thanks.

No problem mate :)

It occurs to me that I might enjoy a simple black/red theme, as I prefer AMD anyway. Red stuff shouldn't be difficult to find.

Red and black is probably the most mainstream colour theme. Good luck. You should update the post everytine you change something :)

Ok, so I've made a bit of a decision re: cable management. Posting this here before I make my order to get some feedback in case I've overlooked something or so forth.

So, it starts with 3 of these:

One in the current hole behind the main monitor, one directly behind the tower (I've decided to move the tower to the right hand side behind the laptop so that when I get a windowed case it'll be visible), and one behind the tablet.

This way, everything can go UNDER the desk basically where it originates and then come back up behind the computer (unless it's a power cable), so 90% of run length is on the underside of the desk.

Next, I am going to grab one of these. Not sure which -- the 4 port one is more functional, but also uglier.

This would be a few inches off to the side in the front side of the desk, probably to my left, for my headphones and also random USB devices I might need to plug in but don't want connected all the time -- flash drives, my nice microphone, any steering wheel I might buy, things like that.

This brings us to the underside of the desk, where I had the most trouble. I'm leery of adhesive-only solutions, but also wanted to avoid raceways/tubes for ease of change.

Mounting the cable box by the main monitor hole, every cable can be run through it to remove excess slack. This will hopefully allow straight-line bundles screwed to the underside of desk or the wall to go just where they need to go.

I wanted to put together a graphic of how this is supposed to work... But in trying to do that I was reminded that my skills lie in other areas. It wasn't good.
