Hello, my friend just bought battlefield 4 to play it with me but he has this weird variety of frames per second between 12-28 depending in wich area he is playing. Could the CPU be the cause of this weird bottleneck?
His specifications are:
Asus F2 A85-M PRO motherboard
AMD A6 6400k 4.30 GHz dual core
Sapphire 7790 1GB 1GHz OC
corsair 8gb 1600MHz RAM
1TB hard disk drive 7200 rpm
Benq 1080p 75 Hz monitor
Windows home premium 64-bit
Can the CPU be the cause of the low FPS? Or is it something else?
His CPU and GPU are both bottlenecks. It is a balanced system, but it is low-end. The 7790 should play the game on medium settings at 1080p. Your friend should try using low presets. Turn AA off, turn V sync off. That should boost his frames.
Ensure that he is running the latests drivers.
Yeah thats a CPU bottleneck.
Thanks alot for the fast replies!
Make sure he has Mantle ready drivers installed.
the gpu is not a problem. because he could run battlefield on high with his previous motherboard and cpu which were:
Intel i5 750 @ 2.66 GHz
MSI H55M-E33
Any advice on buying a new CPU?
If you want to stick to the FM2 platform, the 750k or 760k would be sufficient. Those CPUs are an A10 without the intergrated graphics. That would be the cheapest upgrade. The 750k with a mid range card could easily play BF4 with ultra textures.
Thanks again he's going to get the 760k. Also he recently bought a second graphics card the MSI HD 7790 to put in crossfire with the sapphire 7790. Is the 760k just another bottleneck for this?
I have to be honest, dual GPU configurations are not ideal. The 760k should be sufficient for dual 7790s. But a single mid-range card would be preferable. Something like an R9 270
Thanks but he's going to stick with the crossfire because he already got the second 7790.
