Finally, after months of toiling in my day job and stifling the urge to spend with merry abandon during the Christmas holidays, I finally have the money for a X99 build. However, this may be not the prettiest of them all; it is, at the very least, a stepping stone to be improved further once prices go down.
Here's everything I have so far:
Processor: Intel Core i7-5820k
Motherboard: MSI X99S SLI PLUS
RAM: Crucial DDR4-2133 x 4
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120 GB
HDD # 1: Western Digital Blue 1 TB
HDD # 2: Western Digital Black 3 TB (refurbished from an Alienware System)
GPU: Nvidia Quadro K4000
PSU: Seasonic X-850 80+ Gold Modular
I was thinking of getting a Noctua NH-D15 as my CPU cooler, until I saw a sale for a Cooler Master Seidon 120V for about PHP 2000 (that's about US$45). Is it worth it getting a single-rad AIO to cool the 5820K chip? I don't plan to overclock this card as I presume that the 12 threads is enough to run my productivity apps (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Da Vinci Resolve Lite and Blender in the near future) at satisfactory speeds. I was planning on getting the Corsair 200R as my case (cheap, I know) if I can get away with the 120V; if not, the Cooler Master N600 will look nice with the Noctua. RAM is still expensive around these parts, that's why I'm settling for multiple single-channel kits until prices go down and the DDR4 lineup expanded by local retailers.
This is really a thrift-store build IMHO because I got most of the parts either second-hand, on clearance sale, or refurbished from other systems. The WD Black and the Quadro was from Dell, originally, and I parted my Asus ProArt monitor from a less-than-enthusiastic web developer. Given the state of my build, am I spending less on the wrong places? I am on a strict budget (around US$1900) and prices here in my country (Philippines) are exorbitant compared to the deals that you usually see on Amazon or Newegg. I'm living off my PC as I also freelance during my free time.
Suggestions are highly appreciated. :)
