I got the HTC One M9 recently, and it is pretty good, but I get some banding on some wallpapers I made where there are some gradients. I never had this issue with my N6, or N5, only with this phone.
I have tried both PNG and JPG, I tried applying with different apps, I used Sense launcher and Nova launcher, I have searched for a few hours, all to no avail.
Anyone have any idea on how to fix this banding issue?
O I think I get it, When the image is selected as the background the phone compresses it or does some evil magic and only displays a lower bit quality,... If that's the case I don't know of a fix
The short version is that the colors in your wallpapers are outside the color gamut the screen can reproduce. According to GSMArena the screen is only capable of 16 million so its very likely the colors in your wallpaper are in missing 4% of a full 8-bit display. Desaturation and local contrast adjustments should clean that up.
The N5 and N6 also have 16M colors, unless they just round it to that and have more than the M9. Your explanation is definitely the best so far.
Edit: decided to use a new vector. T did tried other vectors, but they all had the same color scheme. This one had a entirely different one. Guess what? No more banding. Thanks, Izam.
