Bad sas cables?

So I recently moved my Nas into a rackmount enclosure and since then I’ve been having all manner of issues with my drives. At first I thought oh well bad drive and replaced it but then a second and a third and a seemingly endless and random stream of read and write errors with one drive going offline completely. I ran an extended smart test and all drives passed so I’m absolutely not sure what’s going on.

I’m running truenas off a 9300-16i. The card isn’t only and was supplied with some generic looking SAS -SATA breakout cables. The new chassis has much less space than the old so the cable runs are pretty tight. I’m wondering if that could be the reason for the issues. Anyone experienced bad cables before? What are the symptoms usually.

Yes, I’ve had bad cables. I bought 2 cheap SAS Breakout cables off Amazon and they look perfect, but they just don’t work right

Ended up replacing it with a more known brand, and no issue

SAS to SATA and vise versa exist and are not universal I would hope the seller would give you the correct cables but maybe not a guarantee they’re cheap enough on Amazon or eBay it would be worth getting some $5-10 each cables to try. I have had good luck with “cable matters” brand and they aren’t horribly expensive

Seems like I had a heat issue. I zip tied a slim 92mm fan onto the 9300-16i I have and I’ve since not had any sata errors get reported. Finger crossed that does the trick.
