Backup May

I started backing up my data today. As many who lost their data at some point know, a very important step.
So:
I declare this month the month of the backup!

Just in case someone is into badges:

With all due respect, every month is backup month, as you should at the least (depending on what you do on your computer) have a monthly backup as the longest interval between backups.

I "May" backup.

Condescending: I see what you did there.

Old, but probably still relevant:

I know. It is just that I am making the "third backup" to be placed in a bank safe. Then I have the live version, the NAS version and my "if all else fails offline" version.

Only thing I bother to backup are home videos and pics. Those are prolly the most valuable thing I own.

Anyway, an off-site copy is all I need. (3TB extrenal usb drives work great and are super cheap)

They may be the only thing you need, but it sure is nice to have minimal downtime, instead of having to reinstall everything again.

When I was a windows user that was a way of life lol.... windows needs reinstalled every year.

Now that linux is my DD, I find that each new install I learn more and more about what I do/don't need and how to correctly config things. I rather like the fresh install since it allows me to start fresh and clean and improve things.

Well, with Linux, just about every main directory can be on its own partition. So if you have to reinstall, it's not that big of a deal. You can sort of do this with Windows (at least separate your personal data from the OS) but hardly anyone does it, let alone knows about it.

Sometimes, time will win out though.
