Back to Ubuntu

After about 8 years away from Ubuntu, i came back to it via 16.04. This time a dedicated laptop Thinkpad T420. I remember now why I liked it, through I am not using it for gaming. I am thinking of upgrading to a SSD.

While you were away from Ubuntu, what were you using?

Funnily enough I'm now back to Ubuntu, 16.04 MATE. This is after a while on Fedora 24 with Gnome.

It just seems that little bit more stable and MATE seems to get in my way less than Gnome did, although I miss some of the keyboard shortcuts that were present by default in Gnome.

Windows and Chromebook .

I personaly dont like the Gnome or Unity desktop either.
But a nice replacement desktop for Gnome could be Budgie.

Never looked at that DE. I'll try it in a VM, thanks for the tip.

Well yeah they basicly made an un-official Budgie remix distribution.
Which basicly is Ubuntu with the Budgie desktop.
But you could also install it on other distributions aswell of course.
Or even ontop of Ubuntu Unity, seems to intergrate pretty well.

I realy like it better then Gnome or Unity.
But yeah thats personal.
If i remember right @kat has been using the Budgie desktop aswell.

I think that an SSD would allways be a very nice upgrade to a system.
It makes booting just much more faster and smoother realy.

I do use Budgie and it's a very minimal / no nonsense desktop environment. The thing though is that it's dependant on a lot of GNOME features to function properly.

I am so sorry.
