Just some updates on this. Have a cablemod modmesh kit with black/dark red on the way. Mcgyvered that noctua in there with the very tall corsair vengeance led ram. It's flashy, i like flashy. I like my pc to look like a (functional) christmas tree. Msi rx 480 to be added for CF once i get the sleeved cables...too lazy to open it back up when i'm going to swap out the cables anyway.
Issues with the hue plus solved by getting extra internal usb connections, working again now. Added a thermaltake commander fan hub for the case fans.
This is from before the upgrade to a 6700k. I'm coming from an amd build with an 8350 that died, was not even OC'd (motherboard couldn't handle the voltage peak during load, took the cpu with it, so much for msi krait) then went back to my 6300. As you can see cables are more messy here and it's still on a 970 chipset with ddr3.
was ordering parts, saw the msi 480 8gb 'on sale' ..was €20...not THAT much off, but bought it. Kind of an impusle buy i admit. The sapphire looks amazing but its cooling/noise balance isn't as good as the msi's, ran both cards in this system seperately, stuck with the single sapphire because it looks nice..... basically gave myself the crossfire option for no real reason. Horrid isn't it ? I mean you could say crossfire isn't worth the hassle could've gone for a single 1070 instead for about the same price...and on top of that, if i do crossfire it will be two different rx 480's. Pfha. Right now the msi is just lying around. Will update once i get the cablekit and msi in there. See wether i feel it's worth it keeping them in crossfire or use the other 480 in a small form factor build i'm planning to do next year.
I'm not here to judge, I was just genuinely courious about your choice ( I say this because you added some comments like "horrid, isn't it?" in your answer). I think the MSI one looks better overall in the system you showed and, because it's bigger, I don't think it would fit easly in a compact build as well as the Sapphire might fit. In the mean time a 480s Crossifire is pretty good. P.S. you can't split a 1070 to be in two systems at once so your choice makes sense.
Sure! Regrets do not solve anything. I've seen THIS monitor on Amazon that I think might be a nice pair being so affordable. There's also a more expensive 144Hz edition.
Looks great, pretty sure you will enjoy the upgrade. dual RX480´s should work nicely in games that support it well. And you could allways concider to upgrade to a RX490 Vega wenn those are out.
currently using a single 27" 1080 aoc that was real cheap, i like aoc. 27" minimum though, i also feel that, if going for a higher refresh rate & freesync &overall just a nicer monitor you're willing to spend a bit more on, well...i'd just up the resolution a bit too from 1080. IPS vs response time (tn's) for gaming...when using just a single monitor for both movie playback AND gaming i would constantly be shuffling back and forth ...spend more for IPS or spend less on TN. Feels that 1ms or 5ms response time for the average person that enjoys playing some games but really is more of a movie nerd IPS would be the better investment.
Yeah, that sounds reasonable. I wouldn't buy an IPS monitor for my PC because if I want to watch a movie I'm fortunate enough to have a quite nice LG 4K TV (waited 20 years to get a new one but was totally worth). So since you have one of those AOC monitor do you think are worth buying? I was thinking about getting one of those for myself.
It's an E2770S (can't see it anywhere, prolly replaced with another model, think the SHE one as it has similar specs), got it for €150 something which is real cheap. Don't expect wonders, has some bleed, not the best colors etc but the build quality is good for that price atleast. It's got a thick bezel (i like), 16:9 (like), only vga and hdmi connections. http://aoc-europe.com/en/products/E2770SHE
I'm always wary of spending lots (300/400-ish is a lot for me) on a decent monitor, i'm scared something will happen to it and just end up getting a cheap one whilst wishing i had spent more on a nicer one. I have it with phones too, i'm always scared i'll drop it so i never spend more than €200 on a phone.
Also, i haven't had a TV for like 10 years almost. Just felt like getting rid of my tv as i never watched it anyways (only used it to play snes on in the end, or watch something on vhs as it still had a vhs player, yes, it was an old tv. Modern TV's look real nice, and sometimes i think about buying one, but i don't miss having a tv and don't have much space either so i don't get one.
5 years ago i was playing 7 days to die on an i3 sony vaio with an external keyboard and mouse connected. Figured i'd suffered enough and built a pc...then i built some more.
Now my main pc is like a girlfriend that doesn't bitch and complain and just does things for me ...buuut...you want girlfriends to look good, right ?
i'm happy with it, happy i just went 6700k, it's all good.
Now, that optical drive...i can't let go of optical drives, got some spray paint, it's the ugliest part in it (bar for that hideous 24 pin from the rmx).
If i'd be real finicky i'd complain about the leds on the motherboard being red and green, they stand out, with a second card in there they'd show less, i like seeing the cpu temp on the motherboard though, but i use hwinfo temps in my tray anyways.
And i'll always be jealous of custom hard tube watercooled pc's, but it's something to look at, i'm too lazy to invest that much time and money into that kind of build.
I'm still on 1080p too, also on the lookout for a 27" freesync, hdr, 1ms response featured monitor upgrade. Higher resolution. As for refresh rate.. I like using hdmi, it's a habit, perhaps, but need to just do some research on what wpuld fit my budget and be a good upgrade.
As for crossfire, i had a second rx480, impulse buy, so just put it in there. Not that many games taking advantage of it. Just wanted to. :p I'm planning a mini itx build so if i'm not sure about the cf i could use one of the cards in the mini build so nothing's lost. I like how goofy it looks now with the two different cards. And i'm having no temp, noise or power issues. The msi has way better cooling and isn't as loud as the nitro. It's basically just sitting in there idling and looking sexy af. xD
