B450 UDIMM Support

Hi! Longtime lurker/casual follower of Wendell and co since the Tek Syndicate days, but this is my first post here!

I have a proxmox system which was previously running a R7 1700X/32gb of Corsair vengeance RGB pro ram on an Asrock b450m pro4. I wanted more cores and ram for MOAR VMs, so I upgraded to the 5950x, and found a really good deal on some hynix 32gb ddr4 UDIMMs (model # HMA84GR7MFR4N-UH), which this platform should support in theory, though it’s not on Asrock’s memory QVL.

Every single time that I boot with the hynix modules, this machine boot loops. It works with the old ram, but I would greatly prefer to be able to upgrade in capacity if possible.

Any suggestions?

What bios version?

Do a clear CMOS before you boot with the new ram also.

Bios 5.70; I also have cleared the CMOS before I booted as well.

The spec sheet of this ram says that they’re RDIMMs, not UDIMMs like I originally thought. That’s probably it, so I’ll likely be replacing them.

Yep, definitely can’t use rdimms
