L1's Garage

So, an '05 with a borked Trans. I had one lined up to get running again, but at this point it hasnt been touched since I wrecked my motorbike. (Which is finally rebuilt and ready to go to inspection early next week. Took me a while.) I am pleased with how it has turned out. I really hope the shop that does the inspection can sort out some of the problems I still have from the wreck. Small things. Just hoping they dont tell me my forks are slightly bent or some nonesense.
Tangent aside, the car doesnt turn over anymore. Tons o sparks when hooking up the jumper, but no lights even turn on. So ive got to trace that somewhere.

Oh, I thought you were talking about this caddy (the old dash threw me off).

I saw a cool Ford Focus MK2 2005 / 2006 with low millage.
It has a 1.8 or 2.0 16V engine.
And i also saw one with a 1.6 16V engine.
Does anyone know if these particular models do suffer from serious flaws?
Or are those pretty decent?

Not sure I bet the 1.8 and 1.6 are Mazda engines. If that’s the case their bulletproof from my experience. I have a Mazda 323 with the 1.6 8V and a Ford Escort GT with the Mazda 1.8 16V. Mazda Miata / MX5 also have these engines (well the 1.6 16V and the 1.8 16V), so there’s tons of mods you can do to them for pretty cheep.

Oh, and if you find a Focus ST it’s powered by a Volvo 2.5L 20V turbocharged 5 cylinder.

Yeah i looked at some stories about the Focus MK2 en their engines.
It seems like that the 1.4 16V engine is better to skip on.
And there seems to be 3 types of 1.6 16V engines,
on which one of those from the early MK2 seems to have issues with water leaking into sparkplug holes or something.

The 1.8 16V and 2.0 16V cannot really find much information on those.

For the rest looking into any possible major flaws like elektrical issues.
Or rust problems.

The ST’s and RS’ses are too expensive still.
They have Volvo engines indeed.
But those particular engines seem to be far from bullet proof.

That dash that I pictured was a friends car. The first quote. The latter was just a comment. Ive had friends run out of gas twice on me now.

I’m doing a little research on those engines and they do mention Mazda but apparently Mazda based some of their engine off the Ford Durattec.
Kinda looks like a mess. I’d stay away personally, but I’m not a fan of Ford.

I know the current gen focus/Fiesta’s have problems with their dual clutch transmissions. Just swapped one out. It was stupid. A fairly new car <10k miles. A lawsuit with that is still in progress I think.

Yeah i’m not a particular fan of Fords either.
Its just that i´m looking for a cool first and reliable car to start with.
That doesnt brake the bank wenn it comes to maintance and all that.

I personally love Italian cars especially Alfa Romeo’s.
But those are a littlebit too expensive atm.

The new Focus RS also has a big problem with their head gaskets. Witch I was really bummed to hear since I actual wanted one.

Yeah not only the newer fords.
But also the automatic transmission on the MK2 and MK3 are garbage.
But i´m looking for manual

Yeah i guess the 2.0 is probablly Duratec.
I think thats what stood on the engine cover plate.

Muh rotaries.

FTFY

I was really crossing my fingers it was a Mazda engine.

Maybe they should build those for diesel.
Then they might be more durable.

Ah okay so its probablly the same engines as the Mazda 3 and 6 of those era´s?
To bad that those Mazda´s rust soo badlly.

My Ford Probe was a lemon.
The mechanic said:
“The O2 sensor is too hard to fix. Ignore the check engine light. I put a piece of tape over it.”

When the water pump failed I drove for 2 days with no water in the engine.
RIP

Yea, This fiesta might get traded for a manual something at this point. I dont have faith on this replacement lasting.
I may also end up converting my my caddi into a manual. Who knows. I need to get to work on the electrical on that thing first I guess.

I sure hope not, but unfortunately your probably right o(╥﹏╥)o

Yup, it’s based on the Ford engine. Why must Ford ruin my favorite brands (Mazda & Volvo).

Hmm i guess i might better skip on the Focus MK2 then.
