I have nothing to say other than read this please. Us Aussies need this to blow up and get as much coverage as possible.
As someone living in Australia paying over $120 a month for 30Mbps download and 1Mbps up and the past two weeks and internet drop outs through out our whole area and being denied compensation I am true pissed of but am glad there is some kind of new coverage.
What can I do about this? I dont think writing a letter to my local council will do anything. They politics in Australia are hopeless
You could also look up what ability you have to deploy your own fibre. If you live in a community of any size you may be able to dig your own cable. Its been done in the UK in places where openreach has essentially decided to abandon. But it seems to not be straight forward and likely expensive if you dont have land access (many of the people involved in the UK project seem to have been farmers)
The fiber is not an option. I live in area that is going to be developed so any infrastructure will be wiped about when people sell their property and put like 50+ houses there.
It sucks so much. The problem is we cant do anything about it. The government tried fiber to the premise but that failed horrible and now they are completing what their idea of an upgrade is they are trying to kick people off the only system which is better than the new system and cheaper
120$ for that speed? jesus christ you're being taken for a ride. 50/10 connection here is like 30$ a month and i've never seen our prices as anywhere competitive since we basically have one company(sortta semi government owned) who owns all the copper, and a bunch of sub companies renting the bandwidth from them. But 120$ wow. that's insane. For approx 2/3rds of what you're paying we can get fiber 500/500 here lol.
