Aussie Metal

Now, living in Australia I have little knowledge about how well known our Metal artists are over seas. So I want to know who you guys know. If there are any of my Aussie bretheren out there do you like Karnivool? Parkway Drive? How far and wide is the Aussie Metal scene?

Just curious.

First one that comes to mind is Deez Nuts. And yes I know it's not metal more like hardcore. Nevertheless me and my buddies always like to sing along with this band when we're drinking and smoking.

Ne Obliviscaris.

These #$%^&! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DkgHHtRiTA

Video links not working?

Love Ne Obliviscaris.

My friends band just released a new song today; It's pretty crazy seeing them come this far in such a short time, they've put a lot of work into their band so I'm glad to see it paying off.

Here's the track if anyone wants to give it a listen, curious what others think about it.

Some of my favourite Aussie bands.

Parkway drive

Northlane

Deez Nutz

House vs Hurricane

Dungeon, they are no longer together but they are Australian Power Metal.

Just to add to the list:

In Hearts Wake

They're very similar to Parkway Drive (they're even from Byron Bay) and have huge breakdowns and really nice rhythm. Be sure to check out 'Departure', 'Traveller' and 'Shapeless' by them. If you love it, I'd recommend getting their album - Divination.

Australian Hardcore is where it's at!

I am suprised nobody mentioned Be'lakor. The best melodeath band that started in 2000s except maybe Scar Symmetry.

They are very very good.

No mention of The Amenta who formed in 1997 and released their third full-length album this year.

^^ very beastly, Winston, the vocalist from parkway features on their latest album which i bought about 10 minutes after it was on Itunes (and I rarely buy music)

The mighty Psycroptic and shout out to Ne Obliviscaris

I'm from Perth and my tastes are mainly in death metal and black.

A few others:

DeathFuckingCunt otherwise known as DFC, Mhorgl, Nails of Imposition, Ruins, Portal, Destroyer 666 (relocated to Europe), Stargazer, Ignivomous, Wardaemonic, Inanimacy,

Plenty more where that came from.I also used to play guitar and vocals in a band called Khariot which was a progressive death metal band.

Also, kudos to Ulcerate, our friends in New Zealand for being one of my favourite bands ever.

diSEMBOWELMENT - death/doom pioneers

Corpse Molestation/Bestial Warlust for black metal of the savage and primitive side

Hobbs Angel of Death - classic thrash metal

Abyssic Hate - Burzumic black metal

Vomitor - nasty black/thrash metal (Australian metal is rife with this kind of music)

Elysian Blaze - funeral doom

Mournful Congregation - also funeral doom, among the best in their genre

Midnight Odyssey - recently acclaimed black metal/ambient act.

Myrddraal - Wheel of Time-themed black metal

Paramaecium - also early death/doom pioneers, this one Christian-themed.

Mortification - actually kind of a crappy band, what little I heard of them, but they share a member from Paramaecium and also are Christian-themed metal (death metal to be exact). Early albums are supposed to be OK but haven't heard them.

Sacriphyx - OK band, some here might like them, war-themed death metal with a hint of classic heavy metal influence.

The Berzerker - some blastbeat-heavy industrial/death metal kind of group I haven't heard but were a big deal at one point.

Striborg - one-man lo-fi wintry/foresty black metal with lots of Norway worship. Have like a million releases.

More black/thrash:

Razor of Occam, Atomizer, Assaulter, Gospel of the Horns, Spear of Longinus
