This is a quick first impression on the Audio Technica ATH-ANC25 headphones.
I bought these cans on Amazon for $40 shipped, they had pretty decent reviews and seemed great for the price. The MSRP of these cans are $100, reviews seemed positive for the most part.
AUDIO QUALITY:
The audio quality so far is somewhat of a mixed bag. I have yet to hit the 20 hour "break in" period (Which is the average break in period for most headphones).
The Bass and the highs are the most prominent of sounds. The Bass is tight and the highs are clear. I feel the bass is a bit too over powering. The mids are recessed, they aren't as clear as I would have liked.
For $40 though the audio quality is superb.
The Sound stage and imaging is great on these. I can hear the separate instruments and the direction they are coming from.
PHYSICAL QUALITY:
The build quality of these cans are completely plastic, except the leather pads. The plastic is strong and durable. They don't feel cheap, or easily breakable.
Unfortunately they are too tight on my head. I keep finding myself taking them off after 30min.
The cans are EXTREMELY light weight, all the wight comes from the AAA battery for the "Active noise canceling"
These also feature a removable audio cable with a built in volume control.
ACTIVE NOISE CANCELING:
For those who don't know active noise canceling uses externally mounted microphones on the headphones that collect outside noise and cancel it. It's electronic and requires a AAA battery to power it.
I bought these knowing that ANC is more of a gimmick than anything. My ideas were just reinforced. It does not do much. Audio Technica claims an 80% environmental noise reduction, I claim that's bull shit.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
For the $40 I paid for them I am pretty impressed. I like them, they are extremely portable and sound decent for the price. The thing that breaks it for me is the tightness. So far I give these a 7/10...lets see if my point of view changes after a week of usage.
P.S. Sorry for the blurry camera phone photo.
Thanks for reading. =D
