Audio over HDMI?

KVM Model:

MKAG-8KT3114

USB Interface (5-gigabit or 10-gigbit):

??? (HDMI 2.1)

Problem:

First, awesome product. This is literally the only device out there that can handle my Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 Ultrawide display.

My previous KVM (paired with the previous generation of ultrawide) was not up to the challenge, but one thing I did like about it was that it didn’t require as many cables for audio. The audio was transmitted over the HDMI cables to my monitor, and then there was an audio out on the monitor.

When I moved to the level1techs KVM, I was surprised that I had to fumble around with audio cables. I see in the manual references to “audio embed” (which sounds promising), but for the life of me I can’t figure out how to enable it. There’s a little table with “serial commands” (such as A = A, or A = $), but I can’t quite understand what it is telling me to do.

Any advice? Go ahead and talk to me like I’m 5, I can take it…

Other Notes:

I think I saw somewhere that it is possible to listen to audio on the current device, but also hear pings and system sounds from the other devices… that sounds lovely. How is it done?

Well, I’m an idiot. It turns out that I had the audio cable from my speakers plugged into the headphone jack on the KVM and not the proper “Audio out” . Once I had that figured out, the individual cables were no longer necessary.

Hi sorry this fell though the cracks as it were. I’m glad you were able to resolve this issue.

To clarify some things for you,

Your KVM is 10-gigabit

Potentially you could use the “audio follows” hotkey. This would allow you to hear audio from another input that’s connected.
