Athlon X4 860K will it bottle neck?

i wanted to know if the athlon x4 860k will bottle neck the sapphire r9 285 itx?

Hell no. Athlon is AMD's CPU without Accelerated graphics. Its exactly the same as the 7850K in terms of performance but cheaper. It will handle any GPU's fine unless you go nuts with a Dual-GPU that would be Questionable.

I think anything below a 290 would be absolutely fine on an Athlon. Even with a 290, it would be acceptable in most games. Bottlenecking really depends on the game you're playing, but the Athlons are not weak CPUs just because they aren't as fast per core as Intel's CPUs. All of the many, many people who bought an i5-3570k to run a 650 ti spent way too much on their CPU.

I like this CPU because it is cheaper and 4ghz. That is cool.  Thanks for the info.

+1

There are even people out there running the new Pentium G328 with an 290...

Exactly and the AMD is faster than that. Especially in well threaded applications.

It really depends on how CPU dependent the game is. In more CPU dependent games you will see lower performance than someone running say an 8350 or 4960k but it won't be that much lower.

Hell I threw my 780 I have into my one machine that is running an old Athlon II X4 630 (2.8Ghz) and was maxing games so problem. Yeah there was a little bottlenecking going on but the 780 was so fast that it didn't matter much in the few CPU dependent games I played (Crysis 2/3).

If the GPU is under $400 then you'll be fine with a 280x or below. Crossfire will be somewhat fine depending purely on the GPU.
