I’m in the market for some good headphones that will be used for my desktop. I’m currently looking at either the ATH-AD900x ($150) or AKG 553 Pro ($120). Uses would be for gaming and sometimes listening to music (I like 80’s, techno, synthwave, eurobeat, VG ost’s, and classical). Any recommendations on which to choose? I’m also open to suggestions.
HD558 or HD598? HD598s are among my favorite headphones, extremely easy to drive, a hint of darkness and good vocals (good sibilance). Also has extremely good soundstage. But they are open-backed.
So basically 558's are highly recommended, but what about the AKG K553 Pro's? I'm usually an audio technica guy so I personally know nothing outside of AT. I just wanna cover the bases so I can make a good decision.
Been using the K553 Pro's since the original drop, very very nice pair of headphones. Fantastic sound. I would not recommend them for walking around headphones, these for me are to be listened to sat down and enjoying the sound with little interruption, but as you are using them for PC that is perfect.
I use mine for you want to use yours for, they are extremely comfortable for long periods of use. Perfect for this use case. I enjoy mine a lot.
I own both and I would recomend the Ath-ad900x. Bigger soundstage and love so much his sound, the K553 is a little bit sharper if I could say. And the ath-ad900x will probably be more confortable if you don't change the pads on the K553. The ad900x is my home phones and k553 on-the-go phones.
