Looks like The AtariBox is not dead. Atari just showed this off at GDC…
Yeah, current Atari has re-branded their planned AtariBox to the Atari VCS, which is a throwback to the original Atari 2600 console that was released in 1977 that was also refereed to as the Atari VCS. Atari is trying to pull hard on the nostalgia and retro factor here.
The machines planned to be sold at 250-$300 USD at launch and will contain an Intel chipset. Which could end up being disappointing, unless they use a Kaby Lake-G solution… doubtful at that price point.
I’m still skeptical about this machine, but we will see how it develops.
