Is anyone know, it is any updates available for Asus WRX80E BIOS for new TR PRO 5000 series CPU ?, especially for overclocking features
The most recent BIOS update on that board was version 1003, released March 9, 2022. Most recent firmware update was 1.17.0 in April 2022. I don’t have the release notes handy to show what changes were made. The CPUs themselves are not unlocked for overclocking, and I’m not sure that CPU overvolt/overclock is a great idea. They are already at higher clocks than their Epyc Milan cousins. I would like to see some more XMP support for memory overclock/overvolt on non-ECC dimms (even though Wendell has advised me this is also not a great idea). I do think certain software I run on my workstation would benefit from higher frequency dimms though, so I would like to see Asus give me some headroom there. I believe you can adjust the memory speed profile under Advanced>UMC Common Options>DDR4 Common Options>DRAM Timing just not sure how high it will let you play or if it will be stable. My TRPro workstation is only spec’d on a quote sheet so far, I’m still running the Asus X299 board on my current workstation
Word is that the overclocking features will not be supported by any existing board. So far the only WRX80 that supports it is the new Asrock Wrx80 Creator.
It’s not memory overclocking, and of course I don’t need memory overclocking, I needs a lot more stability, but I think a light CPU overclocking can give Me significant power… Now threadripper pro 5000 series is support CPU overclocking, but as far as I know only asrock WRX80 creator that support CPU overclocking… it’s very paradoxical asus have more VRM power and more heavy heatsink but it doesn’t support overclocking until now, and asrock motherboard with less VRM and less heatsink is support overclocking…
Yes… I think so… I think Asus can give firmware updates later for CPU overclocking… that’s VRM and heatsink is also much better than Asrock, and things I like very much with Asus WRX80E is that seven PCIe x16 slots and three M.2 PCIe x4 slots, compared to Asrock that’s only five x16 and two x8 slots
IIRC someone from ASUS said off-the-record that the current Sage board will not be able to support overclocking via firmware update and they will need to release new boards for that functionality. Up until now the Sage was my favorite board but I am selling mine since I got the Asrock.
Thanks for your information…
