Asus WRX80 sage , Threadripper 5975, Qcode 00

Hey guys i’m new here to the LVL1 forums , i recently bought an Asus wrx80 sage WIFI and paired it with a threadripper pro 5975x, when i power on the device it instantly goes to board code 00 and no splash or whatever. ive seen allot of people doing builds in this combination but i recently found this reddit post;

Exactly the same issue, am i better off returning the board or is there a way to solve this without fetching a 3000 threadripper?

thanks in advance!

Greetz,

Dirk

Did you try to flash BIOS 1003?

how can i flash without A 3000 cpu?

Your board has a USB BIOS flash utility, user manual will have more information.

Most many boards do these days, especially $1000 ones. Usually it’s just putting one file on an empty USB stick but the user manual should outline what exactly goes where.

Ah ok! thanks for the tips will try that now, keep you guys updated.

I can confirm that the Asus SAGE board works perfectly with Threadripper PRO 5975wx using BIOS 2003… but you won’t have access to any of the OC features like PBO.

The only instance I know where it won’t work is if you bought your CPU used and it happens to be locked to the Lenovo platform.

According to the manual, you had better connect all 8-pin power cables such as two 8-pin CPU auxiliary cables (4+4 pin header) and one 8-pin PCI one (6+2 pin type header). But, for flashing BIOS, we don’t need to connect two another 6-pin PCI auxiliary power cabls. This is just in my thoughts. Anyway, how about your current status? Is the problem resolved?

As for a reference, let me specify my PC : 5995WX / WRX80e-Sage M/B / A octuple G.Skill Trident Z Royal kit of 128GB 3600 CL14 / 2TB Firecuda 530 x8 ( Three on board & Four on ASUS Hyper M.2 card) / 20TB Ironwolf Pro x6 / Galax 3090 HOF Limited Ed. / Seasonic TX-1000 / Meshify 2 XL / Triple displays

, which is water-cooled by MORA 420, Heatkiller RAD 360-L, and D5-Next.

After building my computer, I first flashed BIOS 1003 on electric plug while the system was not actually turned on. A few minutes later, I turned on the system and waited another few minutes. After that, I went into BIOS and set up it. Everything was fine until BMC BIOS was updated. My DDR4 kit sometimes failed to DOCP at 3600 CL14. So I’ve struggled with this phenomenon, which may be caused by stress tests at booting. I do not know the reason but have a few thoughts about it. Although the memory overclocking can be done manually, I just have tried to use the DOCP profile. If I succeed to solve this, the settings will be shared.

Finally, I anticipate your good building and wish that everything be fine.

PC works great, it runs on air at the moment , watercooling parts are coming in! Im upgrading from a 1950X and 2 1080 ti’s on water.

im not going to mess with the BMC BIOS, since i am going to use this as a direct workstation.

The case is a Lian Lii 011 Dynamic . I chose this one because of large space for radiators. and because i like to invert the build so i can see the water going trough my plexi GPU waterblock. the build is going to be all white with the radiators and tubing, also got myself another D5.

I chose the Asus over the Asrock because of availability in my country and because there are more 16 x slots on it compared to the Asrock. i dont care for PBO that much since everything i do is mostly gpu rendering and somethimes the occasional houdini sim but that shouldnt make a big diffrence.

I got 128 GB’s of Samsung DDR4 server dimms, dont have the exact part number actually its running at 3200 mhgz.

also invested in a 3090 Ti for now. when the next gen gpus come to market i will get 2 4090s on water in the lian lii case i can add a secondary PSU so i can feed the extra GPUS.

i only have 2 M.2 Samsung PRO PCI4 SSDS installed at the moment, is there a reason to use the Raid card?

Thanks Again,

Greetz !

Dirk.

I would recommend you get a second fan for that noctua cooler, it needs all the help it can get

Lianli case is pretty and your build looks nice. Congratulations on new computer! For watercooling, how about locating radiators outside the case? Ah…I solved my problem ^^ that is, not properly working XMP. Have a nice weekend.

Did I read that correctly? You have the Asus Sage WRX80 in the O11 Dynamic? I thought that wouldn’t fit. Or is it the XL?
