Hey there. I'm building a budget gaming pc and I just wana know which is the better choice.
Asus M5A78 L M LX3
Or
Gigabyte GA78LMT S2PV
I know the gigabyte option has a 125w TDP, but the reason im backing out is I don't know whether it has core unlocking. Please help. Any suggestions are appreciated.
What CPU do you plan to use?
For now I'm ordering this stuff.
The mobo
Sempron 145
Corsair vengeance 4gb
But after 2 or 3 months il put in a fx 6300
i would suggedt the asus.. its only marginally better.. and it has the feature you want (core unlocks) but you do realize those cores are locked for a reasoin.. those modules are likely fairly unstable... if you understand how each 8 core chip gets to be made a 6 4 or 2 from binning you will get where im coming from
I'm gona do a bit of OC. Is that OK? The asus has a 95w TDP and the gigabyte has a 125 TDP.
760G is not an overclocking platform. You are looking at the bottom of the barrel of AM3+ motherboards here, they are not built to perform above stock values.
The Sempron 145 is not a gaming CPU. If you are only getting it to get the machine running, that is fine. Gaming will be difficult to any extent.
Core unlocking was a thing during the Phenom II/Athlon II days when AMD utilized core harvesting to increase CPU yields (i.e. if an intended quad core had a failed core, it would be locked to only operate on three cores.) It is no longer a feature of FX series chips.
If you have a tight budget for a gaming machine, I can seriously only suggest you look into an FM2 series setup with an APU. Not only are they cheaper from the start, but you can get newer feature sets along with a decent integrated GPU to use until you can get a dedicated GPU for higher-detail gaming.
