Asus Strix B350-F with G.Skill (Trident Z) 3200 C14 Ram

So, I’m planning my new build to replace my current, really old, machine.
In terms of 3200 C14 2x8GB RAM, there isn’t really a lot of choices and the selection basically boils down to G.Skill’s offering.
But my originally intended motherboard, the Asus Strix B350-F, doesn’t list this or even somewhat equivalent RAM on its QVL. Does anyone have experience with running this RAM with the B350-F? I’d like to avoid getting the bigger and more expensive brother - the X370-F*.
Help is greatly appriciated

*Which features the Tident Z RAM on it’s QVL.

Same story as here:

Or just get another brand board and not get an expensive Asus one?

I can’t quite grasp why people are so obsessed with Asus either, but each their own :stuck_out_tongue:

If that’s his choice that’s fine for me, just don’t get hung up on pointless QVLs.

Oh, I’m “obsessed” with Asus because honestly, I dropped the ball in recent years in terms of staying up to date with current hardware. All my budds told me to get an ASUS or MSI board.

But that’s not really the point anyways. The question is wether someone has real life experience with this specific mb and ram.

I could buy it and then return it if the RAM doesn’t work properly but I’d prefere to just ask for real life experience first, so I won’t have to go through the process of sending it back, waiting for the money to arrive, ordering a different one and potentially having to repeat the whole process aswell

Get the Asus Prime X370-Pro instead, video below explains why.

interesting topic this. I fell into a similar trap when building my rigs. you see tech tubers use x ram and y board and say its all good but in the real world when you get it, it wont work as you want.

I have 8gbx2 corsair lpx 3000 cl15 on a b350 msi board. cant get above 2400 its not on the qvl. but its on the same board but x370 qvl just like your kit and board. I also have a gskill 2x4gb 2800 kit on a b350 asrock board and same thing just not as bad. runs at 2666 not 2800

My advice from real world use is to look at the qvl for your actual board and copy paste the part numbers for the ram to google and find the best priced ram for the specs you want. so if its 3200 cl16 then check out every listed kit that hits those specs on the qvl

just to add too. it looks unlikely that anything will be done to improve the qvl on these b350 boards either. haven’t seen a fresh bios update for months on either

MSI on Ryzen - No… Nonononono… NOOOoooOOOO…NOOOOOOO

I disagree. I have ASRock B350 Pro4. I have followed that board for a long time before I bought it. They have updated the QVL twice. Any AGESA update, that improves memory compatibility will have an effect on improving the … well … memory compatibility.
The QVL is there as a guide mainly. A manufacturer can’t really test all available models of all available brands. They test some. Those some are basically guaranteed to work. It doesn’t mean the rest will not work. It just means they aren’t tested. But it also mean they may not work.

PS: I just checked the QVL of the Asrock again. I am pretty sure they have updated it again… I can swear it wasn’t that long before.

that’s what she said

Oh, I didn’t know MSI’s boards had a bad reputation for Ryzen - What’s the problem with them? The X370 SLI Plus seems to be a fine board from my limited research.

Their biggest issue is the weak VRM composition. It works. My 3 phase VRM also works, but I wouldn’t trust it overclocking an 8 core. Feature wise they are OK, but the VRMs seems to be meh. And when you can get the same features with a better VRMs I would not say go buy MSI…

ive not heard this msi and ryzen thing either. I can tell you categorically its been about 2 months since the last bios update from msi or asrock since I have 2 boards both b350 and both ryzen. neither has had any improvement for ages and I doubt they will do at all from now on.
I have the b350 mortar and the b350m from asrock. NEITHER run my 2 different kits of ram at rated speeds.
I think I gave the OP a fair and genuine account of my experience so I really don’t know why youre trying to hate on me for it.
If you think you can get my memory to run better you are welcome to sent me the settings and ill try them.

just to add. I also had a thread regarding this on here months ago to put it into perspective how long ive been checking and updating my boards. you can also look them up on the websites and see when the last bios updates were released.

I am not though. I never wanted to. I have nothing against you.
The MSI thing i got from here:

I agree with that. They will work on 400 series chipsets, that are supposed to come out in march.

if its gamers nexus then I wont have seen it. I’m not fond of steve or his over hyped small points and downplaying certain companies all the time. TBH I’m surprised any manufacturers send him any samples at all

last bois update was 11/9/17 on asrock AB350M and 17/9/17 on MSI B350M mortar. my ram kits are not on qvl but a same series x370 has my ram on QVL so its not like they couldnt sort it out either.

As previously stated. In my opinion the OP should look at the QVL for the board he wants and buy a kit of ram which meet his spec requirements based on the listed ones, Why gamble.

Luckily it’s actually done by Buildzoid, and not Steve.
