Asus, slacking

Basically, my thread about how asus been recently going on their name without producing good products :< ...

Lets start with obvious, their gpu's. (Its very clear when it comes to them)

  • Asus 6970 DirectCUII (great card, heavy, quiet, and cool)
  • 7970 even a better design, even cooler, much faster than competition.
  • 290x, one of the worst 290's on the market today, they actually made it 2slot card from 3slot card. Cooling isn't so good anymore, it has one of the highest temps around.

Server Motherboards / Normal mobos
- Server mobo's They never were really good... mobo break and they rma it, and send you the same one again... telling you they fixed the issue... and it breaks again in a month or 2.
- Poor quality of plastics for ram, and pci-e ports.
- Bad design, some of the devices are sharing its address space with performance essential lanes, like pci-e ports, memory lanes, sata lanes etc... that can cause big issues impossible to troubleshoot... simply more problems to think about...

Monitors
- Steady decline of quality of control
- The newer asus monitor i get the more, and faster i get dead/stuck pixels...

Laptops
- Some models that were equipped with SATA normal hdd's chipsets were actually made for ssd; and chipset attempts to initiate power saving, which results to iastor driver to freeze and crash, freezing pc for quite a while like 10-15sec...

yeah, iv'e definitely seen a drop in quality from asus over the years. It's most likely a thing to cut costs, because they know that they're going to sell a ton of components no matter what, because they know the market position that they're in. they are the largest motherboard manufacturer after all.

Oh I have some insight.

GPU:
Well its actually because ASUS has seemed to refocus their ways of making GPUS... a okay cooler and a non over built board. In fact I a friend of mine had a convo with JJ and apparently there is no need to overbuild GPU PCBs anymore and I bet that is why its much poorer than normal.

Server:
Never really had good HW at all... like seriously

Monitors: I thnk the company is refocusing and not polishing things as well. It could be a flook. I mean ASUS monitors are okay. I have never been a fan. I like ACERS high end monitors personally.

Laptops:
See the problem is they are trying to cost cut and keep the same fricken platforms between upper end laptops and lower end laptops and I just dont think thats a very good idea. They are still good with linux certification though. They have the most.

And you know what you cant always be on top... :P .. you know

They do seem to be making everything under the sun now, so perhaps that is a factor. Another attributing factor could be the sheer volume of product being shipped. For example, if they're shipping 10x the amount of motherboards than other competitors that means they're more likely to have a higher return rate as well. Not positive about this, but I think OCZ had a similar problem a long time ago with their SSDs and developed a bad reputation because of their high return rates. I'm using this as an example because I believe back then OCZ was among the top sellers of SSDs.

Personally I have owned several ASUS ROG motherboards over the years and the quality has been good. I have never owned other ASUS products so I won't comment on that. However, the new ROG Swift monitor supposedly has very good build quality.

To be clear I'm not defending ASUS, rather just responding objectively to the OP.

yeah but ocz was acquired by Toshiba and is making amd ssd's. Which means they were not doing very well.
(many companies went under since then)

Their X99 mobos seem pretty solid to me.

If I remember correctly OCZ tanked due to bad business practices (and not necessarily because of a degradation in quality of products), which was right around the time when their Founder/CEO Ryan Peterson bailed.

still if they are going for quantity over quality then people will not buy as much of their products, as they won't perform well.

I hope this isnt too old to be considered necro, only a month old.

I have an Asus PB278q monitor and I really like it but the backlight bleed is horrible all over, and OP said they have lowered quality check on those.

Besides that I've owned 3 mobos and have had no issues,

But I've owned 1 asus GPU and am in the middle of the worst dealing with customer service I've ever seen. I have a new topic on it you can find through my profile if interested in seeing that
