It's my understanding that it's ideal you get memory with a low cas latency and memory that runs at 1.5v but in all the setups I see this is for i5 setups. If you are running an ivy bridge i7 3770k does this concept still not apply? What would be a good 16gb ram kit setup for this board? The pdf doc on the board states it wants 1.65v. Slightly confused.

go get 1.5v memory better compatibility with most boards out there
i have this mobo and 16 gb corsair black vengence low profile ram 1600mhz cas 9 asthetics match perfectly with the board design get 2 packs of 2x4gb (8gb) kits. they're like $40 each so a total of $80 for 16gb and its great memory have it on 3 rigs right now all rigs have the same z77 sbtooth too http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233186
why did you choose 1600 over 1866 or 2133? i see you went with 1.5v.
and if you're looking to do a stable overclock and also bump your ram. use the AI suite, put voltage at 1.35 and multiplier at x44... put you to a stable and quick 4.4ghz and bump the ram up to 1968 stable as well... dont do more than 1.35 on ivy bridge bc they cant handle heat as much as sandy bridge bc of the 22nm process even if they are water cooled, just a tip from someone with same specs on mobo and ram
i chose 1600 bc it can still be bumped up in the ai suite software asus provides for the mobo and the cas willdrop slightly too when you do the exact oc i stated above.
that ram choice seems like it was suited for sandy bridge.
nope. the board choice is good to go with that ram, believe me.
Well I see you've already setup some of these boards so do you think going 2400mhz @ 1.65v with the ram below is worse than the setup you reccommended?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mkGQhE1o2w straight from the horses mouth and real time overclocking on the z77 platform with a 3770k and 1333mhz ram... so im 100% sure that ram i suggested is good to go... i have the stooth and same ram in 3 rigs :D
the board wont take 2400 mhz... it only takes 1333/1600/1866
what is your thoughts of the z77 sabertooth? i've been reading on mboards for hours for the past few weeks and i always end up deciding on it.
that board only like 1.5v ram at 1333/1600/1866 and with ivy bridge dont go over 1.35 on the core clock for the cpu becomes a lil unstable, i ran into issues of instability i mentioned on another post and that video i posted was the end result of me searching the net to find out why. JJ knows his thing. beside when you oc the ram through ai suite it will bump the 1600 mhz up to around 2072mhz anyways
i have 3 of them in 3 rigs 100% completely satisfied. check the newegg review on the board as well thats why i got it bc of the TUF features and the warranty and the high end capicitors and mosfets and etc. great board. dont hold back, get it lol
also, for this setup do you think do you think 4x4 is better than 2x8 for 16gb kit? these are not low profile but was clearance an issue for you?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233299
it can be... if you want to go up to 32gb later on with the 2 dimm slots left, for sure. i always go low profile for room for watercooling in top of case... if you're going air on the cpu then you will definitely want to know how tall the heatsink is going to be to make sure you have clearance
was gonna go back mount nzxt kraken closed loop water cooler for my tempest 410 case... just waiting on them to release it.. does that asus auto over-clocking software shown in that video you posted work on the z77 sabertooth as well or only on the p8z77 series? I read that all that had to be done in the uefi bios for sabertooth.
same
all their z77s use the same ai suite
awesome, thanks.. that was one of the reasons i was undecided between the p8z77 and the sabertooth.
they're one in the same basically, just different asthetics and military grade parts on the tooth thats what was appealing to me as well.
