Having some issues with overclocking on it. Wondering if anyone has had any issues with this as well. I should be able to hit 4.0 on stock voltages on a 3930k and 4.5 with a .025 voltage bump. It runs fine and doesn't crash but it likes to post failed overclocking on boot. BIOS is updated and everything.
My one thought was that it could be because I'm running dual channel ram on the board. Should I pick up another 2x8gb kit or does anyone have any other insight on it?
The RAM shouldn't affect much at all, what you could do is ask Wendell, he runs the same rig 3930k and a X79 Sabertooth.
Not every CPU is the same, even if they are the same model. You're probably going to have to give it more volts in order to be stable. Always test it for at least 12 hours with Prime 95 when you think you have a stable overclock. Also keep an eye on your temperatures to make sure it's not getting too hot. What are you cooling the CPU with?
What are you able to OC to without failed overclocking on boot?
Cooling it with custom water cooling loop, if you want the full specs it's in my profile. Thermals aren't an issue. It hasn't had any issues after months of use while it's running. It only fails on boot ocasionally prompting me with a "Overclocking Failed" screen, but then boots normally with the overclock stable. Just wondering why it's posting this, since it's a wee bit troublesome.
It might just be barely unstable. Drop the clock speed by 100mhz and it will probably fix itself.
Alright, I'll give it a shot. Will post if the problem persists.
