Just built a new (to me) threadripper system with 5955WX and ASUS PRO WS WRX80E-SAGE SE MB (not the new ‘II’ edition)
I had assumed things like PBO would ‘just be there’ this being a high end asus board, albeit a workstation orientated one but guess i didn’t do my research properly and they are not. the excuse from asus is the board is lacking some hardware it needs for PBO.
Now i’m not one to really go in for overclocking much, and it wasn’t primarily what i got this system for (my main need was PCIe lanes and RAM capacity/bandwidth) but it’s aggravating the hell out of me having this way overbuilt board with a 16 phase power supply, a whole 3 8-pin power connectors… The whole thing is way under utilised and core tmeps that rarely break 50C under load with an air cooler.
So are there any options with this at all? even increasing the TDP above 280W to allow more cores to boost at once?. There are lots of really obscure power options in the bios, seemingly related to transient response of the VRM, it’s unclear why one would need to adjust them in the absence of actually doing any manual overclocking.
